Accidentally on purpose?

I don't think so, but even if we were to explore that...Pelech doesn't have to surrender that ice or make an attempt to get out of the way. He's not the one skating, he's established his position. Zib decides to skate 65 ft across the rink without ever once looking in front of him. That's just completely stupid. I understand not expecting to get hit if you don't have the puck, but you at least have to glance in front of you to make sure you don't run into anybody like he did, I mean Pelech never moved from the point where Zib glanced over and started his route.

So even if Pelech braced himself (in a way that's not at all against the rules), That's not on him. It's all on Zib.

ZIb  has to look up there for self preservation alone. Understand Laviolette is standing up for his player and working the refs. Added with the Trocheck hit, that's what he suspposed to do as the postseason starts.

It's theater. Laviolette does this from time to time. He knows that he can own the narrative, and he knows he's got another game with these guys coming up, and he wants to win it. Just getting the guys fired up.

The Dobson hit should have provided enough fodder for that.

And I'm not even talking about what Laviolette said. That's obvious posturing.

I'm commenting on what happened on the ice.

Completely intentional on Trocheck, malicious and intentional on Zibanejad. The first is indisputable, the second is because the Islanders have mastered the art of seeing out of the backs of their heads and are threatened by the deep human connection Mika shares with his teammates.

Yeah, lack of awareness in a physical situation is kind of on brand for Mika. lol

maybe make reg wins 3 points?  Idk what the solution is

I still like the old school way:

Win - 2pts

Tie after 60 min - 1 point apiece

Lose - you get NOTHING!

I like OT as a playoff novelty, and shootouts don't turn me on at all.

For those that missed it...

I don't like this reaction.  This is what Travis Green did and it annoyed me. The Trocheck boarding was plain as day. But the Zibanejad play... meh. I'm not buying it was intentional.

Not sure how Zibanejad didn't even see him. Pretty much skated right into a flat footed player that was kinda stationary. I think Pelech was definitely kinda trying to get in his way in a pick/ annoying way, but I don't think he elbowed Zibanejad.

I blame Zibanejad for being a fucking space cadet and not noticing the guy in his path.

This is probably pretty bad. If he's concussed,  they are probably pretty screwed. I guess we'll see more of Wennberg, whom I'm not really digging all that much. He's the only logical choice to slide up to 2 C. Unless Roslovic gets the spot. This might draw Rempe into the lineup more consistently.  Or Edstrom.

I wish we were playing the Piles on Thursday rather than Philly.

Yeah, since the games are so close together, just doing a home and home would have made more sense. Thursday will be interesting. The Rangers are coming off a bad loss where there was some physicality and they're pissed off. The Flyers have bottomed out at the worst possible time, but are due for a win.

Remptrabution is going to be meted out Saturday. I also wish it were a back to back. No matter what happens I can't see us coming out lackadaisically like last night. We will dominate the entire game.

I agree, and instead of 5 minutes maybe make it 10 minutes for more chance to get a winner?

There's no way the players association is going to agree to playing an extra 10 minutes.

I honestly don't understand the aversion to a game ending in a tie. Every game is worth the same value, it's two points. If nobody wins, They split the value of the game.

I don't know why we need to overthink it.

I understand they're trying to avoid teams playing for a tie, but teams are always going to hack whatever system is there. If a team wants to play for a tie, I don't get the big deal. They're robbing themselves of a chance at an extra point which we see at this time of year is critical.

I don't and never like OT during the regular season.  I don't remember what year they decided to make it part of the game; I think it was the late 80's, but I'm not sure.  I always was cool with a 60 minute game, and when the playoffs came, OT was really exciting, because you never really got to see it.

Penalty shots are now so watered down with the shootout, it's like "who gives a fuck"?

Back in the day, when a guy got a penalty shot, I'd pee my pants.  Now...I could pretty much give a flying shit!

I'm not sure how 10 minute OT's would fly with the Player's Association, like Pete said, but I think less is more when it comes to the NHL.  They're trying to make what I thought was a perfect game, better and I really feel like a re-visit to the "way it was" would do wonders for the standings.

I'd actually love to see what the standings would be like under the old school method, but I really wouldn't know how to convert it!  😉

Imagine paying hundreds of dollars or even a grand to go to a game and see them get blown out?

It is what it is. Doesn't it happen in soccer? I don't know, I don't watch that shit.

The "no draw" is an American thing I think. Most team sports when played in a league format usually have draws. Obviously not the same in cups/playoffs.

Been there lots of times.  Matter of fact, the first game I ever went to was a tie.  It's hard to remember, but I think it was either the North Stars or the Seals back around Christmas time in 1971.

It was either 1-1 or 2-2.  But I didn't mind it.  It's what I grew up knowing, so all this is just "eh" to me.

Participation Trophy area, I suppose

My father's go-to phrase popped into my head: "a tie is like kissing your sister," which nobody wants. (Except, apparently, a large percentage of the porn consuming public.)
