  1. The issue I have with him is that he has two play levels. When he is going hard he's one of the best forwards in the NHL. When he is in conservation mode he's close to invisible. What's not clear to me is what triggers the switch of modes.
  2. Imagine how bad the matchup would have been if Laviolette had to cover Wheeler and Bonino's lack of speed?
  3. If any of these guys were missing for any period of time it would be hard for their team to win. That said, I think probably McDavid is the best candidate this year. Oilers looked terrible without him and then like world beaters as soon as he got back.
  4. When he's on he does that a lot. I think he's still the active all-time saves percentage leader at this point.
  5. The trophy curse doesn't apply when everybody is bunched up together atop the standings. It's not like any of the teams that won it this season would be over-confident going into the playoffs like Boston and Florida were the last two seasons.
  6. Ruhwedel was a careful conservative defender last night. When he got the puck he worked it out of the zone with safe short passes. A few of the Rangers better defenders should take note of how to pass north south to exit the zone instead of slinging it back and forth.
  7. Don't want Florida at any point in the East don't want Vegas in the finals. Good with anything else.
  8. Laf is a trash collector in front of the net. He's always been this going back to junior and international play. Both of his goals last night were vintage stuff from him. The thing that has me wondering right now is how he's managed to get so few assists on the Panarin line. He should have about 40-45 assists right now and those just aren't in the record. If he stays with Panarin I expect him to have 70+ points next season with 40+ assists.
  9. Kreider has had a really unusual career. It's not normal for people to put up star caliber seasons from 30-32 after being a middle 6 guy for all of their 20's. GG helped him more than any other Ranger in the two seasons he coached him.
  10. The playoffs may change the perception that Kakko is on his way out of town this summer. It will take some really good play from him to make that happen. At a certain point you just need to accept the #2OA sunk cost and start putting effort into developing players, who, uh, develop.
  11. March 25th 2024: There are 7 teams with 97 or 98 points leading the NHL right now with less than a month until the playoffs. When was the last time so many good teams were so close together this late in the season?
  12. The change I'd like to see is Laf for Zib for a game or two. The power play is not working particularly well at this point and the Rangers should be experimenting before the playoffs begin.
  13. Where would the Rangers be right now if Panarin was having his usual year with 28 goals and 60 assists right now? I think Panarin *is* the MVP this season because he's added a quality, premiere 5v5 goal scorer, that every real contender needs and that the Rangers have been lacking the last few years.
  14. Panarin has been moving quickly into the no-go zones in the slot and just outside it and generating shots from those areas. He's not a net front guy and never will be but he's using his quickness to generate in those areas. Interestingly, this is also something Adam Fox has been doing recently, moving quickly into position and taking the shot instead of looking to exploit the goalie's movement with a pass-too-many.
  15. I think Lindgren has an endorphin addiction. When nobody is hitting him he starts chirping at the other bench trying to raise some business.
  16. The roster is expanded at this point. There are more options available and we don't know what Cuylle is going through right now. If Cuylle is not playing tonight the odds are pretty good that Laviolette thinks he will benefit somehow from taking a game off.
  17. This is starting to feel like a year where 8 teams will go into the playoffs with equal chances to win the cup. Of all of them only the Rangers have looked like world beaters twice for long stretches.
  18. I feel like the big issues are slowly fading away at this point. The injection of youth from Hartford and the young guys from the beginning of the season are noticeable at this point. The vets are slowly rounding into shape and of course Igor is Igor again.
  19. I feel like it was when Rempe first showed that he slowed down a bit. Not in play but in results.
  20. Miller may just progress offensively and maintain defensively. Players tend to improve what they already do well and the other stuff might or might not happen.
