Trading Panarin?

He's probably one of the best free agent signings in the history of the franchise...probably 2nd to the Messiah!

Dude, he's one of the most successful free agent signings in New York sports history. When is the last time a player came here and free agency, especially Ranger, and was every bit as advertised? You'd have to go back to the non-injured version of Gaborik.

More than advertised. He was a PPG player and became a 105 pt player.

Right, who was the last person who didn't come in and get worse? Especially for the Rangers, every UFA looks less dynamic, is less productive, is never worth their money.

Panarin is all of that.

Just so happens The Athletic had an article a few years ago about the 20 best free agent signings in NY sports history: https://theathletic.com/1866451/2020/06/15/the-20-best-free-agent-signings-in-new-york-sports-history/

Quote

20. Marian Gaborik (2009)

19. Kerry Collins (1999)

18. Antrel Rolle (2010)

17. Robin Lehner (2018)

16. Wayne Gretzky (1996)

15. Plaxico Burress (2005)

14. Andy Greene (2006)

13. Allan Houston (1996)

12. Wayne Chrebet (1995)

11. Victor Cruz (2010)

10. Anders Kallur (1979)

9. Carlos Beltrán (2005)

8. Anthony Mason (1991)

7. Brian Rafalski (1999)

6. R.A. Dickey (2010)

5. Kevin Mawae (1998)

4. Reggie Jackson (1976)

3. John Starks (1990)

2. Catfish Hunter (1975)

1. Curtis Martin (1998)

Panarin is right there with Curtis Martin in terms of regular season worth, and Bread is probably better though. The ones that give me pause are guys like Reggie Jackson, Plaxico Burress, etc. Always hard to weight guys who were so integral to championships, against someone who hasn't done that. If Panarin wins a Cup here, he's #1 on this list by a country mile.

They traded for Messier. Panarin is, IMO, the best free agent signing in history. Cup or not.

No arguments here, fellas!  I find this thread about as annoying as a rock in my shoe!  LOL

...tell ya one thing....he looks fantastic the last couple of games playing with Tarasenko on the team.  I don't even think he has to be on his line, I just think he looks very comfortable with a friend of his with him.

But why?

To attempt to get Tarasenko going and to keep Panarin happy.  It's quite apparent Panarin is a different player when he's happy.  Not sure how long it is before just having Tarasenko on the team is enough to keep him playing this way.  Plus I don't think Vesey or Tarasenko with Kreider and Zibanejad really matters much.

But both lines are playing well...

They are, but Tarasenko really hasn't contributed at all yet.  He would benefit from playing with Panarin and would finish more of the chances Vesey is not converting.

Well, I was counting the milliseconds before people started complaining that Tarasenko was not producing.

The offense is not the problem, that line would not have a single defensively responsible player on it if it wasn't for Vesey.

You're trying to solve an issue that doesn't exist. They scored 11 goals in the past two games, and that's not counting what they did over last weekend.

Breaking what's working in order to get one single player going is not a great strategy, imo.

If Tarasenko isn't scoring why bother trading for him?  Not complaining that he isn't scoring, just trying to get him going.

If the rest of the lineup is scoring what does it matter? There's obviously something happening where both his line and Panarin's have life.

Even if he gives the other team someone else to worry about, that means more open ice for everyone else.
