[RS] (#82) Rangers vs. Ottawa Senators — Clenched!

Recommended Posts

Ottawa brings this guy up an emergency loan today, never heard of the guy so I had to look him up. I guess a body to replace Stuetzle in the lineup. I think they may have Rempe covered if need be. Could at least be interesting.  Honestly I hope he sticks to his 6-7 mins and just plays the game.  Maybe one of the last times we see him this season if Chytil is that close and barring injuries.

So possibly stupid question. But will the Presidents Trophy be presented to the Rangers if they win tonight? Or will there be no official presentation? When we won in 2015, we clinched in NJ and then had it given in a pregame ceremony. Will they bother doing that tonight or just have it be a formality? Just curious.

Not that I know for sure but I would assume it would be presented to them in a ceremony before the 1st playoff game.

The way the Rangers are playing, this game going to be a nail-biter to the end like most of their games. Loosing all the marbles prior to the playoff is not an option, after they've done this throughout the season:

The Rangers have been first in the division for 175 consecutive days, the Eastern Conference for 24 straight and the NHL for 22 in a row.

Bread, like everyone else on the team, knows what's at stake:

It's the best way it could be to have this game as a last game," Rangers forward Artemi Panarin said. "If the last game meant nothing no one would really worry about it. Today is a day before a really important game. You're kind of nervous inside of you, confident you're going to play well, but still you have to think a little bit. It's easier for motivation.

Unlike with the Black Hawks, there's isn't much dough riding on this game for Bread:

Quote

It's like when I was in Chicago [in 2015-16], the last game and that game was really important to know if I'd be in the top 10 [in points] or not because then it's making bonuses," Panarin said. "That was $2.5 million. I'm not a money guy who thinks every day about that, but when you know you're 60 minutes away from a million and a half after taxes, I couldn't nap, I had dollars signs in my eyes. I can't say this is the same thing, but it would be pretty nice.

I'd like to know too, b/c if not then I will probably leave early so I can catch the 10:08 train.  This 7:30 PM game is an f'n inconvenience.

I really want to see him hit 50 as a reward for all the work he put in this season.

Also, so Laf will start looking to shoot again because he has been nonstop feeding Panarin for games now.

Rangers Announce 2023-24 Team Award Winners

Artemi Panarin earns Team MVP and Jonathan Quick earns Players' Player Award

The New York Rangers announced that Artemi Panarin was named the Rangers' Most Valuable Player, as voted on by members of the Rangers media, and Jonathan Quick was named the winner of the Players' Player Award, as voted on by his teammates.

Heading into the final game of the regular season, Panarin has tallied a career-high 48 goals, and 70 assists for a career-high 118 points in 81 games. His point total is the second most for a Rangers skater in a single season (Jaromir Jagr – 123 points in 2005-06) and the fourth highest in the NHL this year. Panarin has notched a point in 66 of his 81 games this year, establishing the franchise record for the most games with a point. Panarin has collected milestones along the way, including the playing of his 600th career game on November 2, establishing a career-long 15 game point streak, and recording his 700thcareer point on December 12. The Most Valuable Player Award was voted on by members of the New York Rangers media and has been given annually since the conclusion of the 1941-42 season. This is Panarin’s second win (2019-20).

Quick has a 18-6-2 record in 27 games in his first season with the Rangers, along with a 2.62 goals-against average, .911 save percentage and two shutouts. Last week, Quick was named the team’s nominee for the Masterton Trophy, awarded for perseverance, sportsmanship & dedication to the sport of hockey. On March 30 in Arizona, Quick became the all-time wins leader (392) among American-born goaltenders, surpassing Ryan Miller. The Milford, Connecticut native began his tenure with a 9-0-1 mark, becoming the first goalie in franchise history to notch points in his first 10 decisions. The Players' Player Award has been given annually since the conclusion of the 1958-59 season and recognizes the Ranger who, as selected by his teammates, "best exemplifies what it means to be a team player."

DId you mean boring?

I think he'd be way more effective on a lower line.  His speed is impressive and it could be used better in a defensive type role, or matched with more grit oriented players. I'd rather see him center line 3 than Wennberg, who I feel is incredibly vanilla.
