Eh…not shesty’s fault. Team defense is non-existent. Might as well blame Kreider for hitting two posts and sucking at breakaway.

Not all Shesty's fault, but he hasn't been good either and has to get some of the blame. Quick has consistently been better. I just thought for now the rankings should reflect that. I really hope it's pretty damn short lived.

The Rangers have been blowing chunks in the defensive zone for awhile now.  It's like they're all chasing the puck expecting somebody else to make a play.

Too many alternate captains at this point.  Move it back to Trouba, Trocheck and Zibanejad at this point.

If you need one more A there give it to Lindgren.

This hasn't got anything to do with it, IMO.

Cools gets a bump for playing well enough to be elevated to the top 6.

Short non-specific answers always wind up looking like Magic 8-ball.

How is that a short non-specific answer? You're talking about the captaincy and I'm saying I don't think that has anything to do with what's happening here.

Shitbanejad is back. Did he suit up today?

So I get Fox scored the Rangers two goals but he was one of the major culprits on the Caps last two goals, which won the game for them.

Not mentally tough.  Let's see if that quality shows up as he gets more experience.

The Caps’ 2nd goal was Kreider’s fault. He got all jumbled up coming out of the box. He needed to hold down that side of the ice (Quick’s right), but instead he drifted over to his natural position instead of reading the play. It left the wrap around wide open. Fox correctly blocked the pass lane from behind the net and pressured the puck carrier. Help should be in front of the net on the other side.

The Caps’ 3rd goal, partially agreed. Fox made an aggressive read to cut off a pass and it got through him. But where’s the help or backcheck? Panarin and Lafreniere were gliding back because they don’t play defense. If Lafreniere was hustling he could have gotten in behind Fox and pressured the puck carrier. If Panarin was hustling he could have covered Oshie so Trouba could step out and cover behind Fox. It’s a team sport. The alternative for Fox was to keep drifting back and let the 3 on 2 develop and move down to the hashes uncontested. I like the pressure there instead of the give the space for free, but he needs to make the play.

Welcome back Kakko! Balanced scoring against Seattle, Shesterkin was sharp.  Lots of players could move up after that game.

Lafreniere, lazy backchecking tonight, he better watch out or he'll start developing a reputation.

Miller bad for weeks now. Beyond terrible tonight.

I guess because Panarin is 🥶 (🤣), Lafreniere has 4 points and is a -7 in 11 games in January.

Panarin: 7 ES points, -5

Trocheck: 6 ES points, -5

That line has been promising while they are at least breaking even at ES, but that's not the case anymore. Lafreniere in particular I've caught dogging it backchecking against Vegas, led to a goal against, but I noticed him with more effort backchecking last night which was nice to see. Lavi must have let him have it. Yet still, the line was a minus again in a 5-2 win. Pan -1 Tro -2 Laf -1. Might be time for a change soon.

I don't think they need to change anything, I just think it needs to be addressed with some coaching.

If Chytil comes back I'm definitely dropping Tro to L3 because the bottom six is pretty useless and would be much better with him there instead of Brod.

I dropped Lafreniere because he's got 4 pts and just 1G this month. But also Trouba was good last night.

The Rangers need to acquire a center with some scoring ability.  That would allow a lot of changes that might be interesting right now.

I'd kind of like to see Zibanejad between Panarin and Laf for a bit.

Thought about adding Mackey, but doubt he plays another game since the next one isn't for a week and a half.
