BrooksBurner
Welcome to the 2023-24 Power Rankings! If you are not familiar with power rankings, it is a rating system that analyzes the results of sports competitions to provide objective ratings for each player. Use your own objectives to make your changes to the rankings. Always use the most recent power rankings list provided by the post directly before yours when making your adjustments. How It Works: I will provide the initial power rankings based on the opening night roster. This season, each poster will be able to make 2 (TWO) moves per game in which you can move a single player up or down 2 (TWO) slots, or move 2 players 1 slot each. Any inactive or non-roster player (those sent back to Junior or assigned elsewhere) will no longer be eligible for the power rankings. In the event a player is re-assigned, they will be removed from the rankings and backfilled by the players behind them. If they return, they will return to the same ranking position they left at, with all backfilling players again bumping down one position. We STRONGLY DISCOURAGE piggybacking any player(s). It's not a rule, just a suggestion, but no player should be moved more than 3 (THREE) slots per game. This isn't a serious thread, but it is fun, so please take it somewhat seriously and don't intentionally sabotage the game for the rest of the forum. Comments regarding your moves are encouraged. Extended discussions about others' moves are prohibited. If you feel that strongly about any given player, open a new thread on them and let the forum have a discussion about it. The 2023-24 New York Rangers Power Rankings: (Based off final rankings last season. All new players enter at the bottom. This will include any Rangers player ranked last season that is currently not ranked) 1. Igor Shesterkin 2. Chris Kreider 3. Mika Zibanejad 4. Adam Fox 5. Vincent Trocheck 6. Filip Chytil 7. Br4d
The 4th line is getting more minutes than it deserves right now in it's current incarnation. If Laviolette wants that line to get 12+ minutes a game the Rangers should call Othmann up and put him on the left there with Goodrow centering and Vesey on the right. it couldn't be worse than what we are looking at and Othmann would get valuable NHL minutes in the process. Also, the periodic double-shifting of Panarin is ok right now but it won't be as the season progresses and the schedule becomes more compact. All three of his points came on the PP. I can't find any TOI metrics for AHL games on their website, but my guess is he's playing 18+ minutes a game and in all situations. It makes zero sense to give him those 4th line NHL minutes. Look at Cuylle as the perfect example of playing well in the AHL last season and making progress as a guy who can take a regular 3rd line NHL shift just one season later. Lavvy was riding Panarin after a stretch where Panarin wasn't playing because of the PKs. He finished the game with less than 19 mins of ice and hasn't played played 20 mins in a game yet. Br4d
That actually looks like the Rangers top 3 players talent-wise. If you're looking at the NHL Hall of Fame in 20 years those are the 3 guys most likely to be in.
