The funny thing is that Adam Fox is clearly a top 3 talent on this team however when he comes back the Rangers will have been on such a heater that it will be hard to put him that high in the rankings.  Obviously huge talent but the Rangers clearly can win without him.

Explain yourself @fletch lol

And actually, considering Quick went 4-0 in Igor’s absense, I’d argue he’s a hell of a lot more important to this roster right now that DJ Straggly Hair.

If there was a way to move Zib to no. 5, I would.  The hate has gone to far on Zib, and no. 9 instead of no. 10 is helping to counteract the hate.  Laf, Trouba, and Gustafsson I would all have lower ranked than Zib.

Counter:

He’s pacing 55 points while consuming gobs of PP1 time with some high end players. At a minimum he should be piling up a lot of seconday PP assists. He’s getting out scored by Lafreniere and Gus. The rank is what he’s earned this year. It’s not hate.

You are certainly entitled to have a different opinion.   Zib has been more valuable to the Rangers this year.

Panarin is white-hot, and anyone on his line is going to put up points.

Laf is being graded on a curve, he's better than he has been.  Laf is still making a lot of mistakes on the ice, which is easier to overlook when he makes an occasional play that works.  I don't want to kill the kid because I want to see him develop, but Zib has been a much better player at both ends of the ice.

Ranking goalies vs defensemen vs forwards is in the eye of the beholder - it's apples to oranges.  However, IMO, it's crazy to say that a backup goalie that gets an occasional spot start is deserving of a higher ranking that Zib.  That is the epitome of hate gone too far.

Let’s focus on Laf’s whole game.  He’s on the point on the power play, makes a bad turnover leading to a breakaway, Shesterkin makes the save.  That play doesn’t result in a minus or otherwise show up in the statistics, which doesn’t make it any less of a bad play.

Again, I’m not going to spend too much time running the kid down when I hope he continues to improve.  But there’s good reason why he’s not on the ice in the last 2 minutes with a 1 goal lead.  You just trust other lines more, including Zib and Kreider.

People can rank Shesterkin one and Quick two if they think they’ve been the 2 best players on the ice, that’s their choice.  IMO Zib’s contribution has been seriously undervalued, while Laf has been overrated, that’s all.

You're absolutely right. However this thread is a product of recency bias. The list of players deemed more valuable than the number one center on the team is pretty laughable right now.

Removed Spicy Pork and Garand as they are back in Hartford. I'm not adding Mackey unless he suits up.

There are a lot of players contributing right now.  You have a key player on every line who is making big contributions.  Kreider, everybody on line 1a, Bonino, Vesey.  It's really unusual to have a major contributor on every line.
