  1. Can they even do that? How many buyouts are allowed? Didn’t spooner getting bought out use up one of the rangers buyouts? Didn’t the buyout period already pass? If they buyout said defenseman doesn’t that add more cap space to the team 2-3 years from now when the cap will come tight? Shouldn’t they avoid the looming crunch by avoiding buyouts?
  2. No I’m not I asking a legitimate question who is going and how. The rangers need to shed 6-8m right now not 2 years from now. Of course I didn’t want this but it’s done. Regardless what’s he’s been paid the rangersjust got a really good player, so hopefully he is the lead horse people seem to think he is. In the end I’m a dedicated fan. I want them to win and I’m rooting for it. That doesn’t mean I can’t aak the question, how are they getting under the cap? If somebody else asked you wouldn’t worry about my implied diss of this deal, which is not the intention. More changes are coming because they have to. I moving on to what’s the next move.
  3. I can’t brlieve we are already talking cap with having like 8 guys under 22 on the team.
  4. So if my math is right after signing trouba, lemieux, buchnevich and ada they will be roughly 6-8m over the cap. Is that right?
  5. I agree. I don’t see how he returns money wise. I guess he could start the season here but you can’t let him walk for nothing at seasons end.
  6. I’m sure gms will lining up for them. Can you buy out 6 guys in the same off season?
  7. How are you getting the cap space for that trade. They have to shed some 4-5m now don?t they?
  8. Agree. I obviously think this was a bad idea. But it?s done so hopefully I look like an idiot and the rangers win another cup in my lifetime.
  9. For a season no. Over multiple years yes. It’s not a matter of if this contract will turn bad it’s when. Is he a dominant player for 4-5 seasons, the entire contract or less? Short term there isn’t really a worry but short term there really isn’t a chance at a cup. Long term is the concern
  10. No matter what they do winning next year is not the priority to this team. Development is the only thing that matters. Yes adding panarin would help. But not at 7 years $12m.
  11. Made me right though didn’t it. You argued against the rebuild. A letter appeared and you flipped. My opinion then was as popular as it is about panarin now. Once the rangers made the decision to rebuild all of a sudden everyone seemed to forget how stupid my argument was because they were all in. Same will happen here.
  12. We will see. My bet is that most will say they are glad the rangers didn’t give him what he got from the isles. They will be fine if the rangers sign him at $11.5-12m but if the isles give him 12-12.5 that will way way to much. All of a sudden the ones who could careless about the cap will come up with the argument that the extra 500k in cap hit will be way to much. You watch. It will be as dishonest as the whole argument about the need to rebuild was. In January I was a lunatic in February I was stating the obvious.
  13. 12m puts him very close. But split hairs cap hit is basically the same
  14. And you?ll be the first one. Kind of like arguing the need for a rebuild in January alone to a letter in February and everybody totally does a 180. Isles sign panarin. It will go like this. They paid way to much. They still won?t win because the rest of their roster sucks or unproven. No goalie. And on. Basically describe the rangers and repeat the logical reason why the rangers should not sign him
  15. And if he signs some ridiculous deal to play for the less watch how quickly this board goes from a handful saying to stay away from this deal to an army.
  16. Deserve? He deserves to be the highest paid player in the league? Sure and the team that signs that contract deserves the ramifications of signing a contract like that. High paid Ufas have such a high rate of success here that I can totally understand your unflinching confidence that signing a contract like this will come out roses. If it didn’t work out it would pretty kill this rebuild in its crib but nothing to think about. The rangers never get burned signing ufas.
  17. Ufa is not what it used to be. In the cap era there is no such thing as signing anyone without giving up assets. When a player signs for 20% of your allotted cap others have to go and future moves cannot be made. Star players are moved all the time. Artemi Panarin is a great player yet he’s not a top 10 player in the league. Didn’t stamkos go ufa before deciding ultimately to return to Tampa? Duchene is as big as panarin in my book maybe a small step under.
  18. Problem is a player like panarin only comes around as often as Haleys comet. So obviously there are no other options ever.
  19. Well in khl years he’s only 15 years old so his liver will hold up longer than most 28 year okds
