  1. I’m good with that but then don’t be signing win now free agents
  2. All true. Now with Nelson signed there is a reality to what keeping kreider will cost. 6x6 is fair but does it make sense? I?m not sure
  3. Brock Nelson just signed 6 years $6m a year for what that is worth.
  4. Well if there are any red flags regarding panarin I would imagine jd would know. I would expect that if the rangers do go after him in fa then that means he’s as good a guy in the room as he is off the ice. Jd has first hand knowledge.
  5. Sure would. That?s why I don?t want them signing anyone over five years. That would take them out of any of the big names. Stay the course. ?Accelerate? the rebuild is code for impatience to me. Signing a big name could payoff. I just believe In waiting for some of these kids to show what they are in the nhl before I heavily invest. I?d like the roster needs to be more defined then they are right now. No reason to add to already unrealistic expectations towards guys who aren?t even 21 yet.
  6. If it’s only about money panarin is going to cost the rangers more than Tavares got. The whole Florida discount due to income tax is bullshit yet real. I’ve always thought it’s $12m a year to sign him here. Hopefully I’m wrong and it’s less, better yet hopefully he signs in Florida. I too would prefer Duchene if I had to choose. Would rather not sign anyone over 5 years right now. But with a gun to my head it’s duchene because of position and team need plus he would cost significantly less which means the buyout is less 4-5 years from now when they need the cap space

  8. Correction Weber would have been. So yes it has happened once
  9. That was before the compensation rules that made four first round picks the compensation
  10. No team has signed a player that required four first round picks as compensation and then was matched. That we do know. We do not know if teams ever negotiated to try and sign a player. Regardless the end result of a player leaving has never happened.
  11. Ok. So pretty much every gm ever disagrees with you. That’s why an offer sheet like you are recommending has never happened when 4 firsts was the compensation. If you are opening up a bid for 4 first round picks you will have more options than point. Money is also not a problem because that is already on the table because you are offering it to point to trigger the picks. Four picks has more value than point. Period. Four first picks can pretty much get you any player in the league, at least in terms of value. Also are the rangers done rebuilding? Already? Trading or losing four first round picks when you are still rebuilding seems really smart. This is not the nba folks. Seems odd that all these future first round picks are so easily disposed as lottery tickets. Yet all the previous first round picks of the past couple of years are obviously locks to become our nhl core. How exactly does that work?
  12. While the rangers maybe best positioned to lose 4 first round picks to sign a player like point, it doesn’t make it good asset management. 4 firsts if traded separately would net you much more than point and without a $10+m contract.
  13. I guess you don’t want to move on. You guys are hung up on the comparison. It was comparison by money only, as in cap hits. Name the other player taking up $12m a year in cap hit I can compare panarin to then
  14. The only player making over $12m us mcdavid. There are no other choices. Panarin at $12m will be overpaid in year 1 no less year 6 and 7. That’s the problem for me. The risk makes no sense. Anyway I’ve beat a dead horse here. I guess I’m the only one who feels that way. I’ll move on
  15. My point of bringing up Mcdavid has nothing to do with him. I brought it up because he is the only player in the entire league with a contract at $12m or more. That’s it. Would it matter if I left his name out of it? Ok but my point has nothing to do with Mcdavid. So from now on we can just say player x. Take that for whatever you want. I understand what it is going to cost and why it’s goibg to cost to get panarin. Perspective matters. Talking about overpaying players matters. Of course there are reasons why a player gets overpaid. A main one is when a player is a ufa and multiple teams want that player and bid up the price. I get it. Having good reason to overpay doesn’t take away from the fact the player is overpaid in the end. As far as kreider goes we actually don’t disagree. I’m more than fine moving him if him staying means overpaying him. For all the reasons talked about that is possible. Nobody knows what he will take or not. However it would help to know what would be deemed a fair contract. To get there you have to look at comparables. Brock Nelson isn’t the perfect comparable. Is there a better one, I’d love to hear it? To me though Nelson’s next contract would be the starting point. That doesn’t mean I’d offer it to kreider if it was to high. I think fair would be 5 years $6m a year. I’d be ok with that but I would understand if the rangers walked from it.
  16. I wasn’t concerned with the celiacs. I was just surprised to to only hear of his diabetes now. Thought maybe it was just diagnosed and if it would effect anything. Mainly draft status.
  17. Just read that Kakko has both type 1 diabetes and cieliac disease. Anyone else read that and have any idea if it’s a concern for his career
  18. I understand how it works. Tavares didn’t get $12 and he’s a center and is a better player. Regardless my point was simple when discussing over paying someone. Panarin will be either 1 or 2 in terms of cap hit among all players if the rangers sign him to the contract talked about here. That was my only point before it was dissected into some other meaning. 1 player in the league has a contract like what’s being talked about. $12m will still be a lot two years from now and seven years from now. And you’re right contracts go up. So why doesn’t that equate when talking kreider? Because it doesn’t fit the narrative that’s being pushed. Oh and by the way Brock Nelson is a ufa. He scored 25 goals and had 50 points last year. He is free to chase the biggest contract out there. Why wouldn’t he be at least a starting point when talking kreider. Other of course then to argue.
  19. Only Conner Mcdavid will have a higher cap hit. Seems reasonable
  20. $6m for kreider is overpaid but $12m for panarin is not. Got it
