[brooks] The Salary-Cap Hell the Rangers are Still Trying to Navigate
Fatfrancesa replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
It was always going to be a problem. They should trade who they have to to get under the cap. If that means trading kreider for less than fair value so be it. Fact is signing a free agent isn’t free from costing you other players. They made their decision on their direction and they had to have some idea of what the next step is. IMO future cap space, picks, and current prospects should be the last place they should trade from. If Fast has to go than fine. The cap squeeze isn’t going to stop. -

Again are the rangers having a parade today? I’m sure the fans in Edmonton thought their rebuild was done when they hit Mcdavid gold. This team has proven nothing. In fact it’s probably a lottery team next year again. -

I agree with Pete here. Also it’s pretty funny that people say the rangers should be model for a rebuild when they haven’t played a game yet. There is hope but no guarantee of success or failure. People putting the cart before the horse if you ask me. -
Not portraying anything. I?ve been wrong plenty. As far as you responding in this thread and my post you take issue with, it was directed at one user, not you who directly challenged me being right or wrong. It was said jokingly and why I responded that it was funny. You take offense to that? Maybe you should look in the mirror on whom takes whom to seriously.

You can ask ozzy or paddy as yes I was on another site before it was dissolved. I believe it was Blueshirtbrotherhood. Regardless they can attest to it. I must really bother you though for you to care or think you got me I’ve been on forums for a long time and know a lot of user names here from past forums as well. Nice try though

Fuck I forgot about chytil. Put him with panarin. Sink or swim time for him. Third year in the league and he now would have a bonafide weapon on his flank that plays with pace, exactly how he likes it. It would be evident pretty quick if chytil is going to be the future. Regardless putting Zibanejad with panarin while dangerous severely limits your line depth and makes this question more relevant. Separating them makes this mostly a moot point. -

I’m serious. If panarin is going to put up 90 points somebody has to be on the other end of those points. So you guys can’t move on not me. Panarin on a different line than Zibanejad should be the idea. While maybe not ideal, panarin should be able to elevate a third line center to a second line centers production. Long term of course the position has to be upgraded but for now Anderson or howden should be able to produce at an adequate pace and hopefully surprise on the positive side. I’m buying into the idea that panarin was brought in to help develop these kids because what’s done is done. Do why not let him do exactly that? -

I’m not. Zibanejad is your top center. Put panarin with any of the other centers and he should elevate whomever to at least the production of 60 points. Panarin is a franchise altering player. You don’t pay him the second biggest contract in the league next to Mcdavid and not expect him to carry his line and linemates. Lias Anderson should easily put up 60 points with him on his flank. -
Staal seems like the logical choice from a respect and tenure position but with him always seemingly on the buyout block it would be hard to give it to him

Listen I’m not trying to relitegate the Tampa trade. My point is we traded our captain and another good player and one of the main pieces coming back,Namestnikov, is basically being thrown out as trash if need be by some here. I didn’t like him coming back as an asset and he mY very well be moved for very little. As far as your options to get under the cap I’d prefer trading for space rather than buyouts. My only reason is my concern about the cap three years from today. It’s going to be tight and adding dead cap space isn’t going to help. My view of this team has not changed. Their window really starts two or three years from now. I’m a big believer that these kids need to grow some before thinking they are ready to be consistent cogs on a contending team. Of course they were always going to be on the roster before panarin. After panarin the cap situation means they are there no matter what because they need their elcs. That’s fine. The roll out of lines looks inpressice outside of center ice. But to me anyway it looks impressive in a couple of years. After all there is a lot of kids here. So in the end I’m not buying into the playoff thing for next year. Not being negative just not seeing it or thinking it’s fair to expect so much from the kids. They have great futures and that time will come. -

I didn’t want this move since the beginning. I’m not pissing and morning I’m trying to move on and discuss what’s next. Talking about who’s gone is great. How? I must have missed all the talk about the league interest in shattenkirk, Smith, Namestnikov, etc. because in fact there are threads right on the home page here that’s title is nobody wants shattenkirk or smith even at 50% retention. So that means a buyout? Kreider is a for gone conclusion I agree. Kind of flies in the all panarin costs is money argument but let’s move on. It really is funny though. For five months I’m steadfast against signing him. Then he signs and I’m pissing and moaning and “never happy about the moves they make”. Outside of the return of Namestnikov for miller I was 100% on board with all the moves since the letter. I thought they were doing a great job. Now Namestnikov is being discussed as being thrown out for nothing. Miller just got traded for a first. People complain about my negativity, argue their point than change with the wind. Namestnikov was a great return not 16 months ago. Today he’s garbage and can be disposed of for nothing in return. Look panarin is here I hope the team does great with him. I’m not doubting that he won’t have individual success. I’m worried about the ultimate success, winningacup. I’m certainly no expert and my mind can be changed. I hope it is. Happy about the move though? Why would I be happy? I didn’t want it ever. I don’t think it’s smart. I also think hes being grossly overrated. I don’t view him as a franchise player.
