  1. 75 points could just be a result of having so many players just trying to learn the ropes at the nhl level. I think it?s a fair number, I would probably say the over/under number should be 80 pts if I was making a betting line.
  2. Lol. If it isn’t a star player than there is nothing there. Got it.
  3. I didn’t like hanks contract either and have always believed goaltending is the strongest position in the league and therefore easier to fill. So to be up front I didn’t like that contract either. I really don’t like long term contracts period. I understood hanks more because he was here and he was great and the face of the franchise. So I understood rewarding that but knew it would hurt in the last bunch of years.
  4. Lundqvist was brought up because others were surprised I’m still talking about panarin s contract a month later. My point is that hanks contract has been constantly talked about since he signed it, even with him having a hall of fame career.
  5. So I’m on board with everything but signing panarin. That is sitting around doing nothing? Not signing panarin would allow them to wait for their bad contracts to expire. It would allow them to take advantage of other cap strapped teams. Panarin is a great player. He should be when he’s the second highest paid guy in the league. That isn’t a shrewd move or anything. The guy is going to have an almost impossible time living up to his cap hit ala nash. Still complaining about panarin? The guy is making close to $12m for 7 years. For Christ sake people in all these threads still complain about hanks contract. Panarin will be talked about for 7 years. He’s going to be highest paid ranger in all likelyhood during those 7 years and the teams success will be directly tied to him.
  6. I said kreiders situation is the same. I’m not complaining about holes I’m pointing out they still have many. Some we are assuming a teenager is going to fill now or in the future. Problem is the rangers have made it extremely tough to maneuver because of their money situation. They are in the middle of a rebuild as a team, they should not be having cap problems already. Panarin and trouba are of course better than shattenkirk and whomever. That isn’t the point though. The rangers should be doing everything with focus on 20-21. Let all those contracts expire, have no dead cap, see what you have with two more years of player development, TAKE advantage of the league wide problem of cap mismanagement with smart transactions. Instead they are the team looking to get pennies on the dollar for their assets to fit inder the cap all the while icing what is probably a lottery team once again. Even after buying our shattenkirk they still have zero room to much of anything.
  7. Rangers could have landed trouba, won huge with getting kakko and fox. Had a terrific summer just with that. They could have spent this season letting the kids grow while the bum contracts burnt another year. They could have went this route and everybody would still be very happy myself included. There would be no cap problem and no dead cap in the years that matter. They also could have gotten a better understanding of what they have just through time. Kreiders situation wouldn’t change, it would still be hinged on his play and what’s out there through trade. The rangers have no room to do anything right now. And this team is still loaded with holes.
  8. Maybe. Being in the position they are in to have to buyout shattenkirk should have never happened being where they are as a team. Impatience causes bad decisions and has cost this franchise since the beginning of time. The decision on July 1st 2019 will be felt for years to come. Kreiders up next.
  9. And the cap goes up for everybody. Having less cap space to play with than the teams your competing with is nothing to scoff at. If just makes it harder to win. Not impossible but it makes it harder.
  10. No it’s not. It’s wasted cap space and it hurts the team. To what degree will be determined
  11. Probably waiting because they have trades in the table and they are trying to lessen the blow or decide what is the best option.
  12. There both gambles I agree. Kreider skates better than any of the power forwards people mentioned. In fact he skates better than most finesse skilled players or any players in the league. That is a big trump card in his favor. His skating is never going to be bad or even average. Everyone of those other failed guys lost a step and was then too slow to play effectively. That will never be kreiders problem unless he suffers a catastrophic injury. As far as gambles one costs you double the money than the other. It’s hardly the better gamble because of that. I think the argument to not signing kreider is sound but it’s thd same argument to avoiding panarin. Risk
  13. So why is kreider a lock to be awful four five years from now but panarin will be fine? I’m just not sure I get the logic. Lucic bakes okposo etc are not kreider. He skates so much better then them. I’m not sure I want to sign him either. However I don’t get why anyone thinks he can’t be the player he is now four years from now.
  14. How can you possibly say that? If it’s possible to move them for literally nothing in return they would. It makes no sense not to if you’re going to buy him out anyway. Saying you can move them is nice but rooted in fantasy if they don’t. Because if they don’t its because they can’t find a taker.
  15. Shattenkirk never learned how to play in his own end. His value is in possession and being good offensively. Seems to me ada could easily have his career. Only difference is that shattenkirk acts in a way hockey people like, ada does not.
  16. Not to mention just a few short summers ago you advocated then supported the signing of a refined offensive defenseman who’s a complete liability defensively at almost 7m a year. Ada is basically a better cheaper version of that player right now without growing at all.
  17. The point isn’t that trouba is better. The point is that if trouba isn’t fully developed yet at 25, then why is ada at 24. They will both become more expensive yet one will earn 1/4 of the other probably for 1/4 the term. So yes ada will get more expensive, yes trouba is better, but no logic doesn’t dictate that one has room to grow but the other can’t because you prefer one over the other.
  18. Hopefully. At the very least he should be a stabilizer which they do need badly.
  19. My point is that comparing players stats takes context beyond what you are saying. Same as comparing contracts. Bottom line is Pete thinks the contract isn’t great while you think it’s fine. The opinion either way is sound, the comparables though can be gerrymandered to fit your view.
  20. You’re listing oel career stats. They’ve been terrible forever.
  21. Does it matter that Arizona has been terrible with a terrible roster while Winnipeg has been one of the best teams in the league with loads of offensive talent?
  22. Trouba s impact is more needed on stabilizing the defense as a whole. Points are not the only way he contributes. Do I need to say I agree on panarin not coming close to point per game over his contract?
