They have been given every opportunity, every chance and every second and then some to get this situation figured out. Again, I feel bad for the fans because there are diehards out there. But this is just absurd at this point. And I hate to say it, but I do hope they relocate because this circus has just been embarrassing for all parties involved. What I’m reading is that the NHL would buy the Coyotes for $1 Billion and then flip them to the prospective owner of the Salt Lake City franchise for $1.3 Billion, and that the owners would then split the $300 Million. Because they've never been properly supported by Phoenix and a market with 5 million people - largely northern transplants - with a GDP of nearly half a trillion dollars and one of the top 10 tv markets in the USA is wildly attractive. It's too big an opportunity to be worried about a few million dollars here and there for the NHL. In the scenario above, the Muerelo group would sell the team to Ryan Smith for more than twice the value of the franchise, and then Muerelo would pay a nearly billion dollar expansion fee to REJOIN the league. The NHL's #1 consideration for moves and expansions should be that a state of the art hockey arena is available at the new location. Salt Lake City is the frontrunner for the 2030 Winter Olympics, which would come with a significant renovation to the arena they built for the 2002 Olympics or a brand new arena as the single highest priority. BlairBettsBlocksEverything Posted April 10 Share Posted April 10 all the economic factors in the world can point to why there should be a team there but there are some realities that cannot be ignored -Gross mismanagement of the team has left a state full of people who don't care about the team that they have -The population is so largely comprised of northeastern transplants who might go to the 1 game a year when their home team comes to visit its tough because now there are several NHLers from Arizona, including a top 5 player in the league. The grassroots movement of getting kids interested in hockey was starting to work. But its too little too late. This fucking owner gets to buy a team for $400 million, and pawn it off for a $600 mil profit and a guarantee that the expansion fee he'd pay for a new team is already covered if they choose to go back. There will be almost no rivalries because instead of seeing divisional rivals 4 times we’ll see one another, what? 2 or 3? Not a fan of all of this.
