Is it quite possible that he's just a 1st overall pick that's taken longer to develop and finally is? Not spectrums, or looking to bounce for Montreal, or has anything wrong with him, or hates the organization, or whatever.

Just think, he still has a whole rest of this season and next year too for development even more and turn himself into the player we hoped he would be. Perfect time too with the cap going up so we will perfectly know whether we will be throwing a boat load of money at him or not.

just let the kid play and not worry about all this other BS.

Yeah, players can develop at different paces no matter what their situation is. They're still young. Look at Byfield in LA. He's looking like a player now, but it took him basically the same as Lafreniere to look more comfortable at this level. Again, different situations and ice time perhaps, but you know what I'm getting at.

If worries about production creating a contract mess we can always bump him up to line 1 with Zibs and Kreids. /j

Where RW go to die.....Kakko and a first for Tarasenko back? Anyone? Anyone?

Back on track.....Laffy is making us all Thanksgiving crow. Thank you sir!

The turnaround is remarkable, it really seems like he's finding his game and comfort zone at this level. Maybe he was a big time passer in junior, but that's not who he is here. He's going to be depended on to score goals, and more importantly he's coming up big in big situations. Big shootout goal, big goal last night.

You love to see it.

Laf’s production, Quick’s resurgence, and Othmann’s AHL start are exactly why you don’t judge pre-season because he’s “huffing and puffing”

To be fair, no one was judging him solely based on preseason. His preseason looked pretty much like his entire career of ineffectiveness, so it was a continuing commentary on his suckage.

But as long as he produces like this, he'll silence the critics and won't need any more apologists looking at curated and obscure data slices to try and make an argument in favor of him.

His play is speaking for itself.

Laffy should be QBing PP2.  He should be on LW.

What we're seeing right now is Laffy doing very well despite being out of position twice.

Also, he has made some beautiful passes this year that got shanked by the receiver.  It just is what it is.  He should probably have 8+ assists to go with 8 goals right now.

To be fair Laf's pre-season was pretty bad.

Totally disagree. He's not out of position.  Let's not make him a hero. He shouldn't be quarterbacking anything, he doesn't have the decision making skills at this level. I'm also not going to give him any phantom points. He should have what he has in terms of assist. He's not a player who's going to control the play at this level.

He's excelling at what's being put in front of him. Don't make it more than what it is.

I don’t know that he should be.

You’ve gotten him going and he’s playing with real confidence, but it’s also been 20 games.

Plus they’ll have Fox back before too long.

Lets not mess with things that are working

Update:  Laffy is good!

That is all!

And he's still growing.  That's the cool part.  He's 22 years old and he finally caught on to the NHL game.

Part of the problem may have been playing with Kakko and Chytil as much as he did.  We saw them as the kid line and thought the synergies were there but in truth Kakko has been a total albatross for just about anybody he has been with and Chytil was kind of bad before the '21-'22 playoffs and also absent due to injury a fair amount also.

Panarin has been a constant plus for Laffy and Trocheck seems to fit alongside him as well and both are established vets with few holes in their offensive game.
