QUOTE(S) TO NOTE:

“I was just saying on the ice: I think we have the most dynamic power play. I don't know what the statistics are, but it's the hardest to kill against – especially in practice because of all the threats they have. You have Foxy up at the top, who’s the best defenseman in the league. You have the best net-front guy (Kreider), one of the best one-timer guys inside (Zibanejad), and then Panarin passing and Stromer in the middle. You can't take away every option.”

I wonder if anyone behind the controls at msg has the balls to put ovechkins Instagram profile pic up on the video board tonight…

and what good would that do?  so you would want to make the game a politicized event?  Sure lets do that and have fans start arguing about politics instead of arguing about how much of a scumbag Tom Wilson is.

Usually attending sporting events is used to escape from reality for a few hours and have a good time.

I don't know, but there's certainly an interesting dynamic with Panarin and Ovechkin facing each other tonight.

Yeah. Ovi seems to be openly pro-Putin. Not sure where our star goalie lands. I don’t really care, to be honest, but that’s not how the media operates. This will be a thing.

Not seems to be. Is. Received a wedding gift from him personally. Campaigned a few years ago on Putin's behalf.

I realize this may be some cynical spy v spy bullshit and perhaps tainted by that I fucking love watching Ovechkin, but I'm careful to note that there's a long and sordid history of Soviet athletics being heavily political and largely manipulated. I do not doubt that Putin learned that art from his predecessors as well, and I do not doubt that Ovechkin - noting that his family is all in Russia and that he is the most important Russian athlete on the planet right now - is likely not immune from that.

Ovechkin's been removed from the Caps media availability today. That's probably for the better.
