Every time we play one of these games, it shows what it takes. I think moving forward, I don’t think we need to play like these guys, but I think there’s a lot of good attributes that they have that we can learn from." phillyb Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 Just looked at the standings and they're not technically eliminated yet, are they? hahaha. Welp...good season guys.
Cash or Czech Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 1 point lost for us or 1 point gained for the Bruins in the rest of the season and it's done. I hope we lose out, try and move up a spot or two in the draft. And maybe crashing and burning while chasing the playoffs gets us an offseason coaching change.

The more I've seen, the less I want to put on Quinn and more on Gorton. I think Quinn's done a decent enough job with what he has. The flaws seem to be in the roster construction which would be more Gorton's realm. I still give both of them another chance next season though.

This rebuild, as painstaking as it may seem at times, has been relatively fast. I think we'll see some solid changes over the summer, and I think the kids have made some serious strides in their progress this season. I'm also kinda glad I didn't set my expectations too high and think these guys were going to make the playoffs. I mean, I'm glad they played some meaningful games all the way up to the last week of the season, but I still think this season was all about getting to the next step. I'm certain JD and Gorton will make some good progress in filling a lot of those roster holes in the off season, and I think next year could be the year, if all goes well, that they are a serious contender to make the playoffs.

Blue Heaven Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 I swear I will be one angry mofo if the Rangers win tonight or any of the games the rest of the season after their lifeless showings vs. the Islanders

I've always considered this a 56 game training camp to see how the young 'uns fare playing legit NHL teams. The experience alone is invaluable for them rather than farting around in Hartford for long stretches. Got a good chance to check out chemistry and see who works better with whom and so on, better to do that now rather than burn a bunch of games figuring it out during a "real" season. Really looking forward to next season and hope we get back to a normal 82 game version. The big question is how long of a leash do you give DQ next year? He's had 56 games to figure this roster out (more or less), I'm thinking if they're shitting the bed by end of November then it's time to make a change while there's time to salvage the season.....

I agree with your sentiment here Doc; and no matter what anyone feels about Quinn, love him or hate him, I think he's short a few tools in the toolbox, so to speak. The guys have been posting about it for many weeks now and I think they're correct in saying that it's pretty much a one-dimensional, team, built with basically the same "finesse" type, perimeter player. That's cool by me, because at least now Gorts and JD know what to address in the off season. I think it was a real boost to see that Strome IS that solid 2C we craved for a long time. Kakko and Miller made fantastic strides in progress, along with Yukon finally starting to move the needle a little bit. Add in the fact we have a perennial Norris Trophy candidate on defense now. I'd rather we have the talent level first. I think it's going to be a lot easier to build a tougher, "change of pace" bottom six, dealing from our strength of defense and possibly Buch and Chytil. I think we're going to see a lot of good things happening over the summer, especially with the addition of that extra $13 million of dead cap space coming back. Did I mention I'd love to get Greenway? (That's for Phil!) ;)
LONG LONG LONG TIME FAN Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 Showdown time for the rudderless team that is going nowhere. Will this group show that they actually have it in them to put on a meaningful effort for 60 mins? Or will they prove that they have given up on the season? Hmmmm..... See ya'll in the next world. Bugg Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 Yukon shaved. That is all. What a tragedy. Gonna spill some of my 40 in respectful memory of that red-bearded devil.
