Rangers Paying Attention to Patrick Kane; Sike! No, They Aren't

Frank Seravalli: The New York Rangers are also a team that are paying attention to Kane, and for good reason. You saw what they had to give up last year to get him; they knew at the time he wasn’t fully healthy. It didn’t quite come together like it probably should have, but I think they were really impressed with the way he entered and was a leader. They were just kind of hoping, wishing and praying he’d be at the Kane 88 showtime level we are used to. I think in the back of his mind, he’s also certainly intrigued on what it would be like to go back there. Maybe sort of finally put that piece back together.

I think he will sign for league minimum.  Not many teams have cap room at this stage to sign a big contract.  At this point i'd take him over Wheeler who's slow and useless.

If the rangers trade laf or kak to accommodate Kane, i swear i will quit on this team.

Right now the Rangers have zero RW's that move the needle.  If they can get Kane I'm pretty sure they will do what needs to be done to get him.   After all it comes down to winning.  Their time for waiting is pretty much over.  The cap is going to make keeping the present team together harder and harder.

I’m all for this. Kane, healthy, is still a very elite player. I think we’re caught up in the recency bias with him, since we saw him here hurt last year. But with the surgery now complete, I think he can be a big boost for this team. I hope they can figure out a way to make it work.

Chris Drury enters the room....  😉

I love Kane. I admit it would be hard to fit him but I find it almost impossible not to want him.

depends what his number is. If they’re screwing the team over to fit him then no.

Kane wanted the Rangers, and the Rangers only last year. I believe he did his homework and understood the likely cap crunch. I doubt he wanted to only be a rental. I think he wanted to come here, and remain here if possible. He’s made his money, and now I think he would like to win. While I’m sure he now knows he needs to have a backup plan whereas he didn’t really last year (could have opted to remain with Chicago), I would imagine we probably would still be at the top of his list as far as teams he would like to join.

Kane scored 35 ES points last year. He’s old and coming off of major surgery now. Any ES upside is very limited. We already went through the exercise of forcing him onto PP1 and it didn’t work. It was worth a looksie last year, but it didn’t work. I don’t see a fit.

He’s definitely going to sign here though.

Got to stop looking at even strength points as an end-all be all stat. He also played on a terrible team with terrible linemates.

He's also not old, 34 still has gas left in the tank for a 60 point season which is again better than Donut.

We have to primarily look at points when the value of the player we are talking about is completely derived from offensive production. He’s not a two way player. He’s not a PKer. He’s not a forechecker. He’s not a gritty bottom 6 type. He hasn’t been a well rated possession player in years.

He’s got value, but for a team who needs a PP specialist.

He's going to be 35 in a month or so and he's coming off a major surgery.

If he came in and looked really good it'd probably be an ok signing but he's absolutely not what a roster built like this one needs.

I have no desire to go through a complete rebuild again in a year or two.  If the Rangers need a push in a couple of months bring up Othmann.
