I havent seen an update. Quinn said it was a lower body tweak.

I didnt like the 'hit'. Reminded me to Bure's last knee injury.

"tweak", huh? He played a good one last night too! I think was 7 of 10 on draws too! Thanks Josh man!!

I did a little research lately and checked how many points the first overall picked forwards since 2005 scored during their first eight NHL games. All mentioned players started their NHL career immediately in Game 1 of the season following their draft. Here's the ranking (G>A if there was a tie):

1. Sidney Crosby: 2 G – 9 A = 11 Points

2. Auston Matthews: 6 G – 4 A = 10 Points

3. Patrick Kane: 1 G – 8 A = 9 Points

4. Connor McDavid: 5 G – 3 A = 8 Points

4. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: 5 G – 3 A = 8 Points

6. John Tavares: 3 G – 5 A = 8 Points

7. Nico Hischier: 2 G – 5 A = 7 Points

8. Nathan MacKinnon: 1 G – 6 A = 7 Points

9. Nail Yakupov: 5 G – 1 A = 6 Points

10. Jordan Staal: 4 G – 0 A = 4 Points

11. Andrei Svechnikov: 2 G – 2 A = 4 Points

12. Taylor Hall: 1 G – 2 A = 3 Points

13. Jack Hughes: 1 G – 1 A = 2 Points

14. Alexis Lafreniere: 1 G – 0 A = 1 Point

15. Steven Stamkos: 0 G – 1 A = 1 Point

There are no good options because there are no good players to choose from. They're going to have to solve this via a trade or free agency. Longer-term, internally, but immediately, externally.

There's no good options because they're about to have 20+% of the cap tied up in players that don't play here. That's a Gorton issue.

And with the way the team is playing, they should be in no rush to fix it in the short term. Let it ride, and get Lundkvist in here towards the end of the year for a few reps.

Smith has been fine thus far. He and DeAngelo probably had their worst defensive game of the season on Saturday. They looked ugly. I haven't had any issue with Smith outside of the last game. I think he looks to be improved from last year in the small sample. Let's see how he does with Bitetto and not a partner who, while good at offense, gives up a goal on every fourth shot against.
