The PA needs to approve it. The NHL can't mandate players wear anything.

I don't know if there was any "why" other than the "get a piece of him" I mentioned earlier. We've seen players stick their legs out to go knee-on-knee "accidentally on purpose" in a last ditch effort to get a piece, and I think this was a similar thing.

Petgrave should absolutely be banned from the NIHL and every professional league worldwide. And I also think he should be charged with a crime. He clearly didn't mean to slash the Johnson's throat and kill him, but I have to assume he recklessly swung his leg in an attempt to "get a piece" of Johnson, and Petgrove ended up killing him.

So this was awesome and I hope ESPN/NHL does it more often. I don't know why it couldn't be done on most Saturdays when there are 10-12 games. And it could be super interesting around playoff time when teams may be jockeying for position. It was so nice that it was only hockey - a mix of highlights and live look-ins - with minimal downtime. Plus, there was no having to worry about blackouts.

I think it was boarding and it was late. It was worthy of a 2-minute penalty, but that's it. Bad outcome, but hockey is a contact sport and the player was penalized. We move on.

At that price, not a soul will claim him. But he will probably get at least a PTO next season if not a trade at half-retained this season.

Correct. No player wants to be labeled as a "distraction" in the NHL. And purposely going out of your way to protest a decision the league made is going to cause a lot of media attention no player/team wants.
