They were OK, I guess, but the best third jerseys they've ever done are the Heritage Classic and the 2018 Winter Classic because they're both classic designs. That's when this team looks its best.

The Heritage jerseys were absolute perfection.

Agree that they're trying too hard for modern looks. They're so limited with what they can do with designs that these modern takes just don't work. The last three jerseys have relied entirely on the sleeve piping to provide any other color or design aside from the logo and base jersey color.

I was curious because even though it makes sense to do it that way, not every team has that kind of continuity.

    Thanks man!!

Yeah, it absolutely makes sense to run the same system. There was certainly a lot more of a throughline when Gernander was supplying Torts with players. Last few years there hasn't been much of a system to replicate or talent to really execute it. There's a really good mix of veterans and prospects in Hartford right now that are really buying into an engaging style of play.

Makes sense. Timeline-wise, though, I don't buy the "he bolted before they could counter" thing. They were negotiating for weeks/months prior. Fast was probably adamant about wanting security that they never offered until it was too late.

I don't feel like going down the rabbit hole, but I also remember it being reported that Fast hadn't heard from the Rangers during that final week before FA. Gorton was notorious for not returning to touch base with players. It could be that he thought they were in a good place because he never reached back out.

Jesper Fast. Rangers hard balled him over an extra year only to walk him right to free agency where he signed $2M x 3 with CAR. They spent three+ years trying to replace him, and you can draw a direct line from this decision to a number of poor decisions the org made in trying to fill that hole they dug themselves.

    This. This. And This.

Fast led them to overspending on Goodrow for the same role which priced Buchnevich out.

    Hey Drew, quick question...

I know you see the Hartford guys play a lot, but I was wondering if they run the same type of system(s)/style that Lavvy does up here with the Rangers?  You know, kinda making it more of a seamless transition if and when a guy gets called up?

From about 55 seconds onward Vince asks about Hartford and Laviolette addresses your question exactly. The short answer is yes they do replicate, but it isn't consistent because of personnel and schedule. The 1-3-1 seems more in use than a left-wing lock, but neither are go-tos like in the NHL.

Where do you see TOI and shifts by period? Is that on the NHL's site somewhere or should I use another site? Did Jonny play the 3rd at all?

Who the fuck is the other guy?

He got five shifts in the 1st, four in the 2nd, and five in the 3rd. No shifts in the final 8 minutes of the game.

Edstrom was a 6th rounder in 2019. 6'7" but actually a pretty good skater with some hands. He's playing top six in Hartford.

It clears the cap for us to make moves. Since we can't accrue while LTIR is in play anyway, may as well clear the space if we're sure he'll miss the 10 games.

They can accrue as long as they're below the ACSL but they're currently not with both Edstrom and Brodzinski up. With one down they'd be able to accrue.

  8. Gonna say Trouba. Laf and Gus are a bit more obvious because of their production, but Trouba has been super steady so far. By this point last year (19 GP), he was on for 14 GF with 19 GA. This year he's at 15 GF with 9 GA. You don't really notice the same lapses from Trouba or Miller thanks to the system giving them something to fall back on. He also doesn't seem to be chucking clap bombs from the point nearly as much anymore for wasted shots. Aside from the occasional Trouba train passing through, you don't see too much of him which is perfect. If only he didn't cost so much.

Any trade for Connor McDavid probably just makes us Oilers East in the not-terribly-long haul, barring something that defeats the purpose (i.e. Zib or Panarin going to EDM).

I don't really want to sign up to be Oilers East.

Yeah, I'd much rather wait until the summer 2026 to even really consider McDavid.

  10. Quote

"Obviously, as a goal-scorer and a guy who’s scored a lot of goals in the past, it gets frustrating at times," he said. "But the positive way of looking at it is, I’m still getting my looks. I think I have four or five shots every game. I might have the worst shooting percentage in the league right now, but you’ve got to look at it like it’s going to turn around at some point soon. So, I’m not too concerned."

    Leaning on vets

Despite the scoring drought, Othmann has managed to contribute seven assists, including one in each of the last two games.

The organization shares his confidence that the goals will come − "He can shoot the puck," Smith said − with much of the early focus on the other side of the ice. Othmann's minus-five rating is the worst on the team, with defense an area he'll have to tighten up in order to earn an NHL call-up.

Figuring out how to defend effectively at the higher levels will take time, which is why he's in the AHL to begin with. But Smith has been encouraged by his commitment, saying, "He’s shown that he’s more than willing to learn the defensive side of the game."

    Quote

Othmann credited Nash, Belzile and Wolf Pack captain Jonny Brodzinski for offering guidance, pointing to a particularly strong bond with Nash.

"He’s played over 1,000 pro games now and he has a mindset for the game," he said. "He’s been doing it for a long time now and I have a lot of respect for him. He’s kind of taken me under his wing over the last month or so. He’s an outstanding guy who’s been an outstanding mentor and leader for me."

That advice includes specific game situations, but extends to "preparation, cool downs, working out (and) how to manage your body," according to Othmann. It even includes occasional cooking tips, although his go-to source for that remains his mother, Lisa.

It's all made for an instructive start to his pro career, with the main message being to keep a positive outlook and trust the development process.

"You can’t go from mountain to mountain without going through a valley," Othmann said. "So, going through a little bit of a dry spell here is good for my career. It’s good for the mind, I think. There can be some ups and downs for the mind, but it’s good that I’m handling it now, with all the older guys in the locker room helping me out along the way."
