Ok, I hope you all enjoyed last night and that series. Now it’s time for a little real talk about it and what we need moving forward.
I’ll give some good first. The Rangers obliterated the Caps on special teams and goaltending. They swept this trash team by scoring 5 PP goals, 2 SH goals, and only giving up 2 PP goals. Going even on the PK across 4 games in the playoffs is as good as it gets and I don’t care who they played. They shaded Ovechkin and made him a complete nonfactor. Kreider was excellent taking him out of the PP. The Rangers hung tough in the 3rd periods with the lead, but they also didn’t face that much pressure.
The Caps were the worst team to make the playoffs in probably the last decade+. There’s not much to feel good about yet. Here’s a fallacy I am seeing perpetuated in Rangers land since last night: “this would have gone 6 or 7 with previous iterations of Rangers teams”. Based on what? They never played this bad an iteration of an 8 seed before. This board had 11 people (including me) picking sweep and 31 picking 5. That’s how bad the Caps are. We don’t need to make stuff up to pump tires here. This round was meaningless. Now if they punch the next opponent in the mouth, it will actually mean something.
The Rangers weren’t any better than the Caps at 5v5 outside of game 1. The Rangers were outscored 4-3 5v5 in games 2 through 4, and don’t get me started on the scoring chances. Quite frankly it’s a little embarrassing that they couldn’t tilt the ice against that team. That’s horrendous guys and gals. Sorry.
The Rangers will have to continue to blow teams out on special teams and goaltending. They are about to get caved in at 5v5 against anyone else they play from here on out. We all know the next matchup is going to be the Canes. Here’s a what to watch out for: they are significantly better than the Rangers 5v5 and they had the league’s best PK this year ready to counter our PP. Igor stole the series two years ago and he’ll have to do it again. Then he’ll have to do it for another two rounds to win a Cup. Igor will have to be the Conn Smythe winner to have a chance, and there’s no way around it. The good news is he’s capable. I hope he at least does it against the Canes because I would rather not be stuck wearing my Rangers gear around Raleigh after a loss.
Let’s Go Rangers!

Second round exit very likely though, unfortunately.

This is a bad take.

If Rempe is in the opening lineup and can do enough to get Wilson suckered into fighting, that would be a great exchange. For one, Wilson is one of the guys who can establish the tone of a game and be disruptive for the Caps. For two, any 4 on 4 situation is extremely favorable for the Rangers.
I’d be just as content if he took McIlrath out of the play with a fight. As long as Sandin and Jensen are out, the Capitals are icing two AHL defensemen. Shorten their bench and force their defensemen to take more shifts. -

That also aligns with Bread's take. The takeaway is that he's carrying the puck with confidence because he has a plan. There was never really a plan after "getting the puck deep" which is a direct indictment of the coach, along with the directive that playmakers don't make plays they get pucks deep. You're not getting the best of your talent with that dumb down shit.
I think he's also a beneficiary of Laviolette's system which provides him with more options on the rush. Under GG it felt as though the team never moved up the ice in numbers, and guys like Lafreniere would often have to dump instead of trying to 1 v 3 a defense. I don't have the statistics right in front of me, but they progressively became a worse rush team under GG than even Quinn. Now Lafreniere has 2-3 options that he didn't before or is sometimes one of those options himself.

Spot on.
The biggest thing for him on the forecheck is that he's disruptive. He doesn't do the flyby that's CK does. He goes straight to the puck carrier and puts his stick in lanes.
He's also really mobile, and hard to hit, which is weird for such an upright skater but he's like a water bug out there.
Roslovic's disruptiveness is my favorite thing about him. He's not ever just looking to make a play but also take someone else out of it. He's so good at engaging in battles that allow him to legally interfere with the opposition with whatever extremity he has available to tie up. I hope some of the other guys are picking up some tricks from him.

I bet you one million dollars one of the characters from the Skywalker saga will appear in this show.
Yoda and some council members are alive and likely appear, but I hope they don't rely on digging up old characters. Andor used Mon Mothma but they gave her a meaningful characterization that she'd been lacking elsewhere. I have no issue with something like that versus a cameo for cameo's sake. I'm just not interested in Dave Filoni's self-masturbatory parade of his cartoon creations.

@Drew a Penalty...This guy any good?
I can't lie, I've only ever watched him at the WJCs, Perreault is the only college guy I've taken the time to watch in the last year or so. Chmelar was supposed to shoulder more responsibility in Providence but got injured and never found productivity again. There's potential for him to be a bottom-six player because he plays a very North American brand of hockey. He drives the net, works the corners, and doesn't shy away from physicality. I haven't seen him play in over a year so I can't speak to any growth in his game.

I liked Sleeping with Other People, and the first season of Russian Doll. They're both very different from Star Wars, but they give me enough faith in Leslye Headland as a writer and director who can tackle different genres.
It's also particularly refreshing for Star Wars to pick a new timeline and not one that has anything to do with the Skywalker Saga or Filoni's Clone Wars/Rebels creations. I'm hopeful that this show, like Andor, can survive on its own merits as opposed to 'member berries and attempts to fill in story gaps created by the sequel trilogy.

With this Scanlin call-up, how much has Robertson fallen down the depth chart? Gotta figure Mackey would have been the call up if he wasnt hurt, now its Scanlin.
Scanlin is the best defenseman in Hartford at the moment. Scanlin receiving a contract extension while Robertson has not should tell you all need to know about Robertson's future in the organization.

QUOTE(S) TO NOTE:
"He’s a pretty important player. He should be a perennial Selke candidate every single year. He does everything for us. So, yeah, if he's not going over the wall almost every other shift, we miss him."

Guentzel is so fucking good. We all watched this dude score 8 goals in 7 games against the Rangers two years ago right? He probably should've scored a few more too. If you can acquire him without trading Perreault or Othmann fucking do it. Worry about retaining him in the summer.
