Can we save the issues until they actually are issues? Uncle Larry already has word processed and saved his post season assessment after they lose in the first round when the power play happens to have a cold spell for a few games. CK has been a magician in front this year. Last year most of his goals were puts from in close. This year, they have been incredibly skillful deflections that simply no one else can do. Pete
They need to score 5v5 but at least they're not bleeding chances and turning pucks over like last year. We knew this would happen, and injuries made it worse. Glad they are still able to rack points while injured, beats having to make it up later when healthy. But they will have to score more at ES or they'll probably be out in 2nd round... Possibly 3rd depending on matchups ... Unless something changes. Br4d
Lindholm is on the market next year at probably $7-8M and he's going to want 6 or 7 years at least. How do we fit that under the cap situation we're looking at? The something that has to give to re-sign him is Mika Zibanejad. Alternately we're trading real futures for a rental but getting 80% of the year instead of maybe %40% if we get lucky in the Spring.
jsm7302
I wouldn't trade Pereault or Othmann at this point. Those guys are going to be the future post Panarin. Not interested in making moves until this train stops rolling. Moves made now are pointless when we have lost 2 in regulation thus far.
BrooksBurner
Drury should be taken behind the shed and pumped full of led if he trades Othmann or Perrault for a rental. Even if it’s for the guy I want in Lindholm
Br4d
The problem with all the rentals is eventually your Center depth behind the main roster is guys like Brodzinski and Leschyshyn. You just can't avoid that because you're giving up 1st and 2nd round picks as the rental premium and if you do it a few years in a row the pipeline starts to dry up. Then you're stuck with signing or holding onto guys you really don't want to but the cap is a really harsh mistress and she whips you until you repent for a few years. Hopefully Perrault will be the guy setting up Lafreniere long term (kinda getting ahead of myself, but blue sky scenario) and Othmann is going to solidify the left side middle 6 with Cuylle. Can't trade them for a rentals, at all. Not even a sign and trade (although that scenario, for Aho, doesn't seem likely).

Based on his history I think the question, if Lafreniere really pans out, is who will he be setting up? At some point the Rangers are going to need to find a gunner from the slot for him to feed because that's his bread and butter, no pun intended. The Dude
Just throwing it out there. Just for depth purposes.. Is Josh Bailey that bad that he's still available as a free agent? Once the goalies get healthy, maybe sign him for league minimum and try him out. If he sucks, send him to Hartford/waivers. Probably better than Brodzinski or any in-house option. The fact is the Rangers continue to win games even down their number one starter and multiple key pieces to the roster. I’d argue that speaks to how great Lavi’s systems are and how great some guys like Panarian have played.

It's mostly about guys buying into the need to play frenetic defense in their own zone and Panarin shooting the puck. The Rangers are probably 6-6-2 without both of those things going on. The question is: do the '23-'24 Rangers have anything going on offensively outside of line 1a and the powerplay or are we seeing them at their best right now? At some point the opponents will begin taking what they're seeing out of line 1 at face value and expend their resources trying to shut down line 1a. If that happens we'll find out how great Panarin actually is and whether Lafreniere's step up is real or not.

Panarin already draws premium defensive matchups and plays against those players all the time. I won’t deny though that there’s some truth in what you say and ES production needs to be better from other lines. It’s early. Peaks and valleys are coming.
