He is right. What is that team doing? Better them than us but then again, im sure the same could be said about JT Miller a number of years ago.

I was not aware of the off ice issues that Miller had when here. Maturity goes a LONGGGG way.

I mean what is the true story on this roster right now? Do we really need another stud scorer or just decent guys to round out the lineup.

We have 6 elite players on this team. Kreids, Panny, Zibs, Fox, Trouba (depending on your take) , Shesty

2 blue chip young players (former top picks) with one hopefully emerging right now in Laffy.

1 kind of mid level guy in Strome.

The huge gap is really the monstrous drop off after these guys. We go from elite producers to almost black holes on the 3rd and 4th line.

I almost think we would be OK if we just get another decent player or 2 to add to Voltron.

You stabilize the 3rd and 4th line with guys that arent non contributors and can actually score.

Of course anytime you can add a 30+ goal scorer is great but if we sub out our basically sub 10 goal scoring forwards with a couple 15+ goal scorers with some better assist ability that will be a big step up for this team.

Vatrano for a 4th was really a good start. Rakell and/or Domi would transform the bottom 6 for us from one of the worst bottom 6 of the contenders to something right on par with those teams potentially.

Why would Rakell be on the third line?

To even out the lines, though it is entirely possible they could put him in the top 6. Very interesting to see what this team looks like by Monday and then where they put Kakko when he gets back.

Both. The 2nd line badly needs a scorer. Maybe that’s Vatrano, but more realistically he is probably better suited being a finisher on the 3rd line.

You could be right. I think Panarin IS a good scorer but he just defers too darn much. Kakko or Vatrano could be that guy. But Kakko hasn't shown enough yet.

No doubt getting a Kane or even Rakell in the mix would be huge.

While I'd prefer they get a guy that has a shoot first mentality, I think that line really just needs an average player with an actual solid attribute that contributes to hockey. Just one attribute... A good skater, a sparkplug, a nose for the net, a shooter, a puck carrier, a defensive specialist, a net crasher, a grinder.... Something.  Dryden Hunt was/is none of these.

Is Vatrano that guy? Maybe.  But, I'd like to add more to the depth chart, just incase he is more of a fit on the 3rd line.

Real question is if Lafreniere can stay on the top line. I'm thinking not.. Plus where does Kakko fit? He wasn't contributing when healthy, so are we seriously  just going to put him into a major role?

I'd like to see

Kreider-Zibanejad- Kessel/Domi/Rakell

Panarin- Strome- Vatrano/Kessel/Domi/Rakell

Lafreniere- Stastny/Copp- Kakko/Vatrano/Domi/Rakell

Goodrow- Rooney- Reaves/Gauthier

I'm not saying get allll these guys, but a combination of 2 wingers and a center.

Not the best names that were talked about, but that list of top guys has disappeared, with only 1 potentially still available. Obviously there's the names brought up that would need retention or 2 team retention,  but I don't think we'll see that.

I want depth. Players that can somewhat legit play mid 6 roles to bolster the lineup and also give Gallant options incase of any injury.

A center is of most importance IMO. If Strome gets hurt, it would kill this team. BUT it wouldn't kill them if they had to replace him with a Stastny or even Domi.. If they had to replace him with Chytil or Mckegg... "it's over Johnny". Nevermind if Zibanejad gets hurt.

Seriously. They must get a guy that isn't disgustingly out of place playing 2nd or 3rd line center. That's part of why I was hoping they could go big. Those names are off the board.

Aim lower.  Told ya's

I call absolute bullshit on that claim

I just watched a video from the fourth period, before I knew it was a video from the fourth period.

That's the only reason I didn't kill myself. I was tricked. I didn't know. Had I known and watched it.  My semi-automatic shotgun would have to be placed in my mouth in preparation for painting my walls.

Whole lotta bullshit there. Might as well have an Eklund video.

You know looking at the sellers out there.....We match up with Anaheim really really well for potential pieces they would want and what we would want. Would a Kakko or Laffy and other prospects and picks be on the table for some sort of a Zegras, Troy Terry and Rakell combination? I mean 2 of these guys are cost controlled pieces for this year and next. Thats big considering our cap situation. Lastly both Zegras and Terry play/can play the Center position.

Also the regime that drafted Laffy and Kakko are no longer here. You do see the new GMs turning over roster pieces to make their own stamp on the team.

I honestly, if I had to put a guess on it, would go ahead and say we grab Kessel very close to the deadline for next to nothing. Just a hunch.

We could go the 'cheaper' rental route to fill out the roster and start to stabilize depth on the team. Certainly an option.

Just now, Dunny said:

With all the space and capital we have to deal, we better not be rolling with the flotsam that populates our bottom 6 comes Tuesday.

At the prices being paid today, I honestly think they're done. 77 to the third line and 24 to the second line when he returns from injury.

I really think they're just going to roll with what they have.
