It really really is. I’d say “pinch me” but it wasn’t that long ago where we owned them both in head to head and just general standings/playoff success.  This is less of a dream and more of an aging reality of futility.

These last few years though seemed so weirdly flipped where it felt like the inevitable was happening without any control of it. Now it really looks like order is restored but the only difference is that the Islanders aren’t built for a long rolling window. This was their year. I believe they are the 2nd oldest team in the league while we are one of the youngest and getting results. And brand new arena?  Chefs kiss!

The fact they've yet to win in their own building is just god damned incredible.

I find that to be the absolute most hilarious thing going.  I mean, I know they started with a road trip from hell, but jesus, we're in December already and they haven't even gotten one win there!!!

If Jack Campbell turns back in to a pumpkin, Leafs could be in panic mode in a hurry.

You see that seed that Stamkos blew past him last night, Dunny???  Good god!  That man can shoot it!!

If that would've hit Campbell, it would've blown a hole through him!!!  LOL

Speaking of 39 plus year old Islander D-Men, while watching Andy Greene get beat to the outside on the tying goal tonight, I was reminded that this disciplined "built for the playoffs" power has some real weaknesses.   One of those weaknesses could even be the brain of Lou Lamoriello, which thought that signing Chara, Parise and Palmieri was a good idea.

Lou gets a lot more credit than he deserves. He made some mind-boggling decisions with the Leafs and Devils towards the end. And the Islanders bubble seems to have burst here too.

Too bad, so sad.

Slap shots and curved sticks were once considered "against the spirit of the game."

If you are not enjoying the Islanders' problems enough now, pause to think about the problems they will face when trying to improve an old cap challenged team in the off season.  Is that the sound of a window slamming shut?

For context, they have a little under 14m in cap space and only have 3 defense under contract next season. Also will probably lose Clutterbuck, and need to bring in two other wingers I think. It’s not horrendous, but they also have 6 guys over 30 years old with significant cap hits. Lee, and Bailey can be traded though. Pageau can be as well but only before his ntc kicks in next season.

Just saying it doesn't matter what Buchnevich does anywhere else. We wasn't going to do it here, he was a cap casualty.

Gotcha. Just posting that here in the out of town scoreboard thread. It’s the proper place to highlight it. Not clogging up a Rangers thread.
