He's on WFAN right now, basically said he doesnt want to work anymore, his time has come.  Decision wasnt hard to make, something that he wanted to do for a long time. He's wants to wake up in the afternoon, and not have to go anywhere.  He wants to watch all the baseball he can, Mets/Yankees, ESPN, etc.....He will be very happy in his retirement.

He probably should have just retired in the offseason instead of early in the season. lol Unless, he just lost the passion overnight. He was always fun to listen and a big part of my childhood. He will be missed. They are honoring him at the Stadium on the 20th.

It's probably because he's sick, Sharpy....most likely to the point where it's affecting him and making it uncomfortable.

Indeed. Also last season he got hit the head with that line drive there and really hasn't been the same since.

Are we sure that is true about him being sick? The Rich Eisen show said he is not sick at all after talking to him. Just that he decided he wants to retire and doesn't want to announce anymore.

That is indeed true. Michael Kay was talking about it during the game and he said nothing is wrong with health-wise, he just decided early on this season he was just done, that it was time.

It wasn't a must-win or anything, but if you're going to lose two out of three, that's the way to do it. lol They definitely needed that. I'm still concerned about the rotation and rather piecemeal bullpen. Hopefully Cole and Kahnle come back sooner than later because they are very much needed. Stanton playing better is going to be huge for this team. I really hope it keeps up and he remains healthy.

How much do you love Soto??  ...Guy is a beast!

A guy with left-handed power was needed at Yankee Stadium. Who knew? lol One of my main critiques about this team the last few years was that they basically had no left-handed power hitters, and were far too right-handed down the lineup. Soto is a franchise player, generational type of talent who really needs to be retained at all costs. Getting Verdugo was a nice move as well. A solid lefty hitter who works counts and draws a lot of walks. This current lineup feels more like the old school Yankees lineups where they have patience and work at-bats.

So far my big disappointments are Torres being absolutely terrible in all facets and the infield defense being pretty terrible.

I love the big 3 in the OF, and I'm not terribly down on the infield.

Volpe has a great glove and Berti the 3rd baseman looks pretty decent so far.  Gleyber is gonna be Gleyber..I know.  But he has his moments.

With Gleyber, he has a lot of skill and ability, but his baseball IQ just isn't there, and he gets down on himself for everything. He's just mentally soft. I don't see them bringing him back anyway, because re-signing Soto needs to be a priority. DJ will be back soon enough and we still have Dominguez as well. I think their system now is the best it has been in a very long time. Lots of reasons to be excited otherwise.

Yeah, we just have to rough it for a little bit.  DJ is always a shot in the arm, and I forgot about Dominguez!!!  Hockey season...that's why!   😉

It should be a good year though!  I'd love to see these guys get to the post season!

I think they can. Baltimore is loaded and will give this team a run for its money for the division. That or the wild card is absolutely feasible, especially if the pitching can round out into form.
