Fatfrancesa Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 27. One of the Olympic hockey subplots will be Ilya Kovalchuk. Unlike last summer, when New Jersey held his rights, he is unrestricted this time. And, if he comes back to the NHL, it is believed his eyes are on New York. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/31-thoughts-trying-remedy-nhls-goalie-interference-controversy/ -- I would think he would be an adequate fit for replacing Nash if Nash doesn’t come back. Of course not the two way player but probably still a better offensive player. And best of all costs nothing in terms of the rebuild other than some money and a roster spot
Future Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 You only go after him if you are also going after JT or something. He alone doesn't move the needle for this team, and there's no guarantee he'd be as effective in today's NHL.
Blue Heaven Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Go Get Him Gorts! Love to see Sean Avery's tweets/insta posts if Kovalchuk signs with the Rangers
paddynyc Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Could be a nice addition, but how long of contract do you want to give and what does he want?
Bugg Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Money has to work for NYR. He's gonna want a lot of $. Don't see how that works here.
Fatfrancesa Posted February 7, 2018 Author Posted February 7, 2018 I’m not a huge fan just posting what Friedman reported.
Fatfrancesa Posted February 7, 2018 Author Posted February 7, 2018 Also would note as long as there is not a no ntc he would be a valuable piece to move next deadline to bolster the rebuild
josh Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 I cant pass up Kovalchuk. Not unless his salary demands are too high.
jsm7302 Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Not interested unless he takes a decent pay cut. 3-4mil at most otherwise...hard pass .
Shane Falco Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Hell naw. We are calling for a rebuild here. He's 34 now, plus I don't see him seeing for cheap. Focus on more important things like a center and defense men.
Rangers4Life Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Turn money into prospects and/or picks, I?m all for it.

Come back over from the dark side.

Huh? I don't want Kovy, but the only way you do try to make that happen is if you're buying for next season.
LONG LONG LONG TIME FAN Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Malcontent that never was satisfied. Nyet, comrade.
torontonyr Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Do it. Let's assemble the best 2009 team possible.
josh Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 ironically, the 2009 cup champs just won back to back stanley cups...
ThirtyONE Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 How can anyone want to sell this season and add Kovalchuk the next the same breath?
josh Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 HARD pass. to left dot, GOAL!!! Kovalchuk rips the puck past Holtby. It's a Power Play Goal! and the Rangers now lead 5-2.
josh Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 How can anyone want to sell this season and add Kovalchuk the next the same breath? not everyone wants to sell the season. And its a rebuild on the fly. They arent tanking for a decade.
Sod16 Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 IF, Nash and Grabner are not resigned; IF there is some cap space left after signing RFAs and #27; IF whatever young assets we soon acquire are not NHL ready, leaving roster space; IF he will sign for a modest sum for no more than two years: then and only then am I not violently opposed to this. After all, his potential for NHL success at this point could even be greater than Guy LaFleur's was in 1988...
ThirtyONE Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 not everyone wants to sell the season. And its a rebuild on the fly. They arent tanking for a decade. what is a "rebuild on the fly?" I know that's what was said, but what is it if it's not a veiled re-phrasing of rebuild? They're selling for picks. They're considering moving Mac and Zucc. If that's true, there's no denying what this is.
