  1. Yes. There's potential here to have a much bigger window for a championship (or championships) than during the Lundqvist Era. Another team other than Washington and Boston would be the Blackhawks.
  2. This is probably the best the brain trust has been for this franchise since, what, the late 80's - early 90's. It's been that long.
  3. Potentially a Staal-like defenseman, maybe even better. It's still a good selection overall.
  4. I'll be interested to see how many games he gets. The Capitals have a really good Russian goaltending prospect in Samsonov, kind of like we do here.
  5. Yeah, their defense hasn't been great in quite some time. He sounds like a Staal type of defenseman who hits more which certainly isn't a bad thing. I don't know. Like I said, I don't hate having him in the organization, I just don't think it's someone I would've traded up to pick.
  6. If anything they are much deeper on defense, so yeah, can't complain. Like I said I don't hate the pick at all, I just thought they'd take a center. But, there's more rounds and free agency, so whatever. Schneider is still 2-3 years away from even being in the discussion anyway.
  7. They still have plenty of picks left anyway, and there are centers to be had in the later rounds, so we'll see. I don't hate the pick by means, though. He was one of the last best available defenseman left in the first round and NJ was definitely going to take him after already drafting a winger and a center with their two other picks.
  8. I'd rather he have gone to the Avs. Washington is still a really good team and a contender, I just would have preferred Colorado. That's probably because I like them a lot more. lol Plus, I also think they have a bigger window of winning the Cup than Washington does right now. But, I do think hiring Laviolette is the change behind the bench they need.
  9. I think that would probably be better. I do wish they had a second round pick, though, but yeah, it's pretty difficult to complain about where they are already have just one round. I was kind of hoping they would've taken a center with the second first rounder, but it's still hard to complain about getting a guy like Schneider, especially since he went maybe a bit lower than he was projected. Lafreniere sounded open to playing center in interviews. I don't know if they would actually do it, but it had to be on their mind if they didn't seem too worried about not drafting one with that other pick.
  10. Getting Lafreniere and Gorton basically sniping New Jersey and taking Schneider made for a great all around night. I'm hoping they can make a deal somehow and get into the second round, maybe make Strome a part of that. I don't know. It would have been nice to have at least one second round pick since this draft is quite deep.
  11. Are you referring to the last time they picked first overall in the early 60's? He never played in the NHL. The players I mentioned were just guys that were high picks with a lot of hype that never amounted to anything.
  12. Although I thought it was hilarious that the Flyers absolutely had to have Brendl as part of the Lindros trade, and then he bombed. :slats:
