  1. That was Theismannesque. Best case scenario is bad sprain, 3-4 weeks. Worst is severed ACL, surgery, not even back for start of next year.
  2. I just don't understand why there isn't a rule against scheduling games in different cities with start times less than 24 hours apart. Players' Association?
  3. Marked man. After this, he won't be able to so much as bump someone without it being called a minor. Next game against Devils = Charlestown Chiefs versus Syracuse Bulldogs grudge match. A real shame. On Guftason's goal, you couldn't have moved Rempe from in front of the goal with a house moving contractor.
  4. Trivia: Luke and Jack Hughes (NHL's leading practitioners of Wicca)
  5. In Slap Shot IV, the Reg Dunlap character will be called "Artem."
  6. Right on schedule, the Torts meltdown commences at about 1.75 seasons in.
  7. Trivia: St. Louis (The dynamic city that went from the 4th largest in the country to the 27th largest between 1900 and 1980).
  8. Two new forwards with no subtractions. Have we seen the last of the Twin Towers this year?
  9. Team No. 8 for the Duke. He may challenge Mike Sillinger's record of 12 if he signs short term contracts.
  10. I don't think either of these guys lived up to their billing. A preview of a trade of Kakko or LaF at some point.
  11. The scouts must be universally down on him. Quite a contrast between this trade and what it took to get him a year ago.
  12. So we had a third line that was our most effective 5v5 for some weeks. We blow it up, moving Kakko up, where he never seems to excel, and getting Wennberg as the new center.
  13. 34 goals in 58 lifetime playoff games. Surpasses even Nash and Panarin. Actually, that stat must put him in a very small group all time.
  14. It's the personnel, stupid. I was just looking up someone at hockeydb.com, saw Ruff listed among those pulled up over the past hour, assumed he was fired, and came here to see what the gang had to say about it.
  15. Fair enough, but in preparing for a deposition Bob Cantu, the world's foremost authority on CTE, and other related work, I acquired a lot more knowledge on the subject than might be possessed by the average hockey fan collecting fight videos. https://concussionfoundation.org/about/staff/robert-cantu When the CTE suit was settled, my close friend and law partner drove up to a hard scrabble Canadian town to find a frequently concussed player who is not coping well, as it was the only way to assure that he would get his check. He asked around on the street for a day before finally finding him in a dark single room in an SRO. Kinda put a damper on my cheering when guys are slugging each other in the head with bare knuckes. I understand that Rempe will not be fighting as often after he goes through the league once, but it may not take as much as you might think to do the damage. I hope he plays with an edge, creates space, and rarely, if ever, fights.
  16. No Pete, I didn't speculate that Mika has CTE. I said nothing about shooting from further out. I said it was possible that beyond the fact that he is getting older, the lack of intensity that I see in his play compared to a few years ago might be related to his history of concussions. Having some residual minor symptoms does not equate to CTE. Interesting study. Enforcers were found to die on average 10 years earlier than other NHL players. https://www.publichealthpost.org/research/fighting-hockeys-deadly-toll/ Derek Boogaard; Reggie Flemming; Steve Montador; Larry Zeidel; Rick Rypien; Bob Probert; Wade Belak; Tod Even etc. Enforcers dead before their times with CTE. And we don't even have the formal diagnosis for so many who are still alive but suffer from headaches, emotional difficulties and substance abuse, like Chris Nilan, who we all cheered on in day.
  17. Keep cheering and egging on Rempe. 25 years from now, when he is in obsurity and broken from CTE, you won't have to confront it.
  18. That's about right. I understand the concerns about him wearing down, but who would have thought five years ago that Marc Staal would still be in the league now.
  19. I'm looking forward to two or three years from now when Zib is a very reliable 3rd line center and power play specialist and we are not expecting more from him.
  20. In connection with the CTE lawsuit, in which a law partner of mine had some player clients, I learned a lot about the long term implications of concussions. Sometimes a player "recovers" but years later starts to be a little "off." Perhap Mika is simply aging, but I wonder about his concussion history. I don't base this on stats but the eye test. Three or four years ago, he seemed like a disruptive dynamic force, all over the place and pressuring the opposition into mistakes. I don't see that at all anymore. I see a talented unselfish player who is prudent about making mistakes himself but isn't pressuring the opposition anymore. He's just not so intense. That's why I wonder about long term concussion implications.
  21. Trivia: Houston, Atlanta and Salt Lake City (best three cities to move the Jackets to)
  22. Love to be a fly on the wall on the flight to Columbus tonight. How many hookers do you think they bring in for Rempe?
