  1. He's signed, and there's like four players worth of dead weight on the team before you need to make a Kreider trade. He's staying unless the team sees it absolutely critical to work out the extension or deal him before camp.

Namestnikov, Smith, Beleskey, Shattenkirk, maybe even Strome - all would be gone before Kreider if it's cap-dump time.

G man's right on that. We have CK for this season under contract, but I think Brendan Smith has 2 years left. Jesper Fast is the other guy who's up after this coming season.

  2.

I wasn't really for signing Panarin, but I'm also not an NHL GM. If these all these experts are saying this is a good deal, I'll buy it. Panarin is one heck of a talent, and I'm all for backing the decisions of both Gorton and JD, so fuck it...Bring on the season!

  3. You have a ton of confidence in two rookies that haven’t played a NHL game yet. I mean I’m excited about the future but we need to dial it back a bit

Oh no doubt these guys are going to need time to grow into it, but they're good! I do have a lot of confidence in them. They skate well, show the talent, and brought along over time, should be staples in our lineup for many years to come.

I also don't expect Shattenkirk to totally shit the bed again this year. The guy can play...we've seen it...just NOT here! LOL

  4. I actually won't be upset if they hang on to Shattenkirk and I'm fully against buying him out.

Smith can go, but I think Shatty has the ability to have a decent season if healthy.

Same. This year. Next is a completely different story.

The issue is that someone is going to their offside. They have, ostensibly, four NHL defenders on the right.

I'm telling you guys, I just have a weird feeling with Shatty this year. He's finally 100% and I think he's gonna have one heck of a rebound season with Kakko and Kravvy out there. His experience is going to be a very welcome addition as well.

I'll even make a prediction and say:

    68 Games played

    11 Goals

    31 assists

    42 Points

    -4

  5. having Reaves or another tough guy will not deter Marchand and his kind cheap-shotting players. it hasn't yet and most likely never will.

I dunno, CC...It would make a guy think twice and sometimes that's all you need. You go back a long way, like I do...and if you remember back a ways, Gretzky first Dave Semenko, McClellan and then added Marty McSorely to make sure no one messed with those guys.

Yes, it was back in the day, and the game has "changed".

BUT...shit still goes down out there on the ice...not as much!! ...but it still happens.

  6. Am I right in reading that people want to sign Reaves for around $3 mil but don't want to pay Strome $4 mil?

This is just mind boggling and archaic thinking. "Toughness" isn't even a thing in the NHL anymore. when the Blues started playing smart instead of trying to play in Boston's face outside the whistles, that's when they started winning.

I never said I was against Strome, Pete. ...as long as he gives us 100%.

Sorry got sidetracked there for a minute....(edit)

Yeah man, I have no issues with Strome, but there is going to be a phase here where these kids can use a bit of an insurance policy. I wouldn't want guys like Marchand and the like, taking liberties with players like KAkko and Kravtsov.

I know a lot of people are against the whole toughness and enforcer thing, but it does exist and for the up and coming youth of this team I just feel it's a necessity. I also know I'm in the minority with that sentiment, but I don't give a shit. We've never had a generational talent on this team since I've been watching (1971), and I'll be damned if I have to watch some fucking dirty prick like Marchand take out this kid's knee without the presence of some player on the Rangers that going to pull his spine out of his asshole if he does it.

Like I said man, we can disagree on it, but I just feel it's part of these kids being able to flourish....You gotta pull the weeds out of the way in order to grow free.

  7. This was part of Friedman s 31 thoughts today;

    Read the last paragraph.

    3. Colorado is going to be fascinating. A boatload of cap room. From the moment Artemi Panarin made it clear he wouldn’t extend in Columbus, the Avalanche wished to pounce — but multiple sources indicate he did not meet them on Sunday, as many of us previously heard. Denver is an unlikely landing spot for the talented winger.

Here’s Colorado’s concern: Mikko Rantanen needs an extension now. Barrie’s up in one year. Philipp Grubauer, Gabriel Landeskog and Cale Makar are up in two; Nathan MacKinnon in four. So the Avalanche are going to be careful about “term” deals that may cause problems down the road. Joe Pavelski made a lot of sense here, but term is why it is unlikely. Mats Zuccarello was on their radar, too, but I’m not sure about that for the same reason. (It is believed Dallas is willing to go four years, so someone would have to beat that.)

The Avalanche were unwilling to include their 16th pick (Alex Newhook) in last week’s draft for Chris Kreider, so it is unlikely that gets re-visited — especially since he’s up in a year. There was a wild rumour about Jonathan Drouin, who has a long friendship with MacKinnon, but a few different sources poo-poohed that one.

Whooooaaa Nellie!!! I hadn't heard anything about Zucc resigning in Big D!!!

That's awesome news!! That a #1 pick for us in 2020!!!!

  8. Minus Kreider, you go in with Chytil, Kravtsov, Kakko, Strome, Buchnevich, Panarin*, Namesrnikov as your top 9. Other than Lemieux, you got nothing. Blueline doesn’t offer much in the way of muscle. almost a necessity to get some re-enforcement to give the kids some ice and “support”

It's not like the guy can't play, either. I think he'd be a valuable player for the next 3 seasons as these kids mature. Guys like Reaves are an instant smash here too! The crowd would love him to death, and in turn not a soul would even breath on our youngsters.

Reaves is one of the MOST feared players in the league....and still has it!
