  1. It?s going to be extremely exciting to watch this team.

I think they?ll have stretches where they?re really good, and stretches where they suck. It?s probably going to be a lot of entertaining hockey, because I don?t expect them to be very good at keeping the puck out of their net. We?ll see loads of 6-4 games, I?d imagine many of them will be losses.

I think they can be competitive-ish (Carolina and Caps probably too good for them)in the Metro and mayyyybe push for a WC spot. But if they don?t it?s fine. The Rangers don?t have to make the playoffs this year. And that?s another reason why I expect this season to be enjoyable. They can afford to let these kids develop and find their feet in the league.

DOING!!! Give that man a Cee-Gar! :slats:

  2. Depends on whether you’re an analytics or eye test type of guy. In terms of analytics, Howdens play away from the puck is abysmal. I’m not going to point fingers because Howden is young and the team was shit, but in terms of fancy stats there’s little to support the idea of Howden being a responsible, 200 ft type of guy and certainly not more so than Andersson at this point. He does look like a guy who will develop into one though.

That's the feel I get from him as well, Gravy. He has that "look" of an NHL'er...even if it just looked sometimes like he was wandering around out there. I'm really looking forward to watching these guys all grow into their skin, so to speak. This is going to be a fun season coming up!

  3. Everyone agrees that Howden showed some very positive flashes early but was then ineffective for the bulk of the season. I don't understand why he was given so much ice time in all situations after proving ineffective for so long. At one point in April, I found myself dumbfounded as to why he was on the ice 6 on 5 down by a goal in the last minute when he had six goals on the season. Quinn was remarkably more lenient with Howden than any other young player, and I am not sure why.

I think Howden has that NHL player "feel" to him. RG is right though, he was gassed by the end of the season, but I suppose a young player has to go through that in order to hit the next level. If there were playoffs involved, I'd be thinking the usage would have been throttled back a little....maybe a lot!

  4. If you can get rid of him you do it. He?s probably going to have to be bought out if not. He has no future with this team or what they are building. If didnt make sense to sign him then and even less sense to keep him now if afforded the choice to be able to move him.

Yeah Franny was against the whole Shatty deal...it was on webleedblue which is now a faceplanted website. I was the flaming douche who was actually for it!!! He gave us a so-called hometown discount to come to NY too! Oh yeah, I bought that "hook, line, and stinker"!! I thought he would be great on the PP, but time has yet again proven that I fucking blow as an armchair GM.

...at least I'm house broken! Well, sort of! ;)

  5. Smith. I'm telling you. This guy is going to be comeback player of the century. THIS YEAR. I know I said this last summer, but this is the year...

I took Shatty this year as my dark horse, Dude! I hope you're right, man! If we could ever get some value for Smith and Shatty at the deadline, that would be tits!

  6. Your annoying history teacher here again. Bill Fairbairn wore #10 and played RW on the "Bulldog" line with Walter Tkaczuk for 7.5 seasons and scored 138 goals for the Rangers. Was a key part of the early 70s contenders. Part of a fine tradition.

...those were the days, RG!!! I remember being 5 years old and watching him score a shit load...I think he scored over 20 a few times...hit 30 once too! The guy WAS a bulldog!

  7. I think Kreider is probably a better leader behind the scenes than people realize, but I don't think he's got the personality of a captain.

Why do you say that about Trouba?

When I listened to him in his interview I just get the gut feeling that he's pretty good with the press and also well liked by his teammates. He's young but has a decent amount of experience. He also seems to have a no nonsense approach to the game. Add in a seemingly calm, cool attitude. I've only heard a couple of interviews but I guess to me, Future it just feels like he could be a pretty good candidate:

No idea. This is one of those rare areas of the game we have near-zero insight into. The vast majority of what makes a great leader goes unseen before fans, so I tend to just defer to the coaching staff on these types of decisions and accept whatever they determine.

If I had to venture a guess? Staal or Zibanejad.

I agree Phil, it's really a behind the scenes kind of thing we never really get to hear or see until after that fact. I think if they were going to have Staal, it would've happened already. I don't know about Zibanejad...I don't get that "leader" feel from him. Good player, absolutely! Captain??? ....eh...I dunno!

No Zibanejad. The Rangers are sad enough. I dont need this guy giving interviews like his dog just fucking died after every game.

wait it out, let a leader rise naturally

    Killin' me man!!!
