I don't know why, but for some reason I just had the strangest suspicion that Kakko will be playing with Lias Andersson next year and Lias will take a big step forward.
I was thinking that as well, Lothbrok!
Even Buchnevich I think will be impacted as well. That PP will be pretty good with Kakko out there. That's also the reason I think Shatty is going to have that bounce back year this season.
Our PP wasn't even all that bad last year. I think we were right in the middle of the pack....and I still thought it looked shitty. But 19.4% was I think 17th overall in the NHL.
Point is...I think a lot of players are going to benefit from having a player like Kakko in the lineup. We haven't had this type player since Messier/Leetch. And the way these analysts are talking about Adam Fox, you'd think we were getting Ray Bourque back there!!! Lots to look forward to in October!!!

I think Hayes tries to come back to NY, first. If not, probably the highest bidder. Dallas, Colorado, probably not Montreal
As for the Rangers, it really depends on how you see this rebuild going. As much as I want to be competitive next season, if it's the "slow patient process", then it doesn't seem like the right fit. Ideally, you have a 2C developing and can take that position this season or next season. Then you have a $7m 3C. I don't see has as a future #1C. And we've seen Zibanejad and Hayes, as 1 -2, have their best seasons as NHLers... and the team got the #2 overall draft pick. I think it's time to move on, give Chytil a shot at 2C, maybe Andersson has a huge step forward season... The Rangers have enough 3C's, and if Zibanejad or Hayes doesn't improve from last season, then you're in a rough spot for 7 seasons.
On the other hand... gotta love that big body in the middle of the ice. Although Chytil, Zibanejad and Howden are of similar size - its not the same. Neither is their defensive play, puck possession, ability to carry the puck in the neutral zone and into the offensive zone, the penalty killing, leadership, and the familiarity. With re-signing Hayes, you need to "go for it" sooner than later. You have $7m in Hayes, and Zibanejad will need a significant increase within a season or to of Andersson, Chytil,Kakko, Howden, Kravtsov, maybe a defender or 2, or a vet that sticks around. Hell, I might have to bring back "Move Zibanejad to wing" if this doesn't pan out.
I like that first theory, Josh man. The patient way to go is the best way I believe as well. It's a whole new hierarchy, pretty much from top to bottom now and I'm sure they'll have their own way to approach this whole rebuild. To me, hell! I wanna see all new kids and a whole new attitude. I've watched this Sather regime for too long and quite frankly, I'm tired of looking at it.
I think with the Kaako era on the rise and with Gorton, JD, and Quinn we have a good start to the next 10-15 years of some really good Rangers hockey headed our way.
THAT is what I'm looking forward to!! As well as rooting for these kids to take shape this season, and show good signs of the future.

10 days to Kakko!!!!

NO evidence, just Brooks spewing
https://nypost.com/2019/03/18/kreider-reveals-reason-he-has-been-so-invisible-for-the-rangers/
The either/or situation is, are they going to be a playoff team and use Kreider as their own rental, or do they trade him.
If he wants to sit out while under contract, fuck him, let him sit at home for a few months without a paycheck and no hockey.
Exactly, Josh man!!
A new era is about to begin!
-
There's no interest in players who pretty much suck and have bad contracts. Who would have thought? lol
The only way we're going to get rid of these guys is to take back someone else's shit. That, or somehow, someway these guys play themselves to some type of value. Shatty can do that I think. Smith is going to be a little rougher because he doesn't bring that much to the table to begin with.
I wouldn't mind if the Rangers played Shatty this year, and gave him a chance to return to form a little more. I still think he's good enough to contribute, and have a bounce back year. If so, a deadline deal might not be out of the question for him.

At this point I think about 75% of what Larry Brooks says comes right off the stable floor.
-
JD will figure this shit out. No worries...
I'm just getting ready for Kakko day!

For #20 and 2nd rd pick.
1. Newhook (0.3% chance he's available at 20. But at 16 (COL - Knight) or 18 (DAL - Russian FWD), might be able to move up a few spots)
2. Lavoie
3. Hoglander (rising)
4. Dorofeyev
Poulin
Foote
Beecher
Kaliyev (dropping)
Mutala
I'd love for Newhook to drop, but we'll see. Lots of mocks have Tomasino at #20, and a couple with Cam York falling to 20. I got Kaliyev at #13 or #14....but it's just these guys' best guess.
My Pick at 20 has been Seider, and I'll be really glad to see a 6' 4" defensive defenseman that can also skate like him with that skill set. Hopefully the guy just keeps getting better!
-
Assuming they stay with the #20 pick, these are my four picks if they're avail.
1. Kaliyev
2. Lavoie
3. Seider
4. Harley
All are 6'3" or 6'4" and most are not done growing. Rangers need some big kids, IMO.

Yes....I agree 100%, Brown!! Looks like by the way the Blues are playing, smash-mouth hockey still has a place in the NHL. ....at least in the playoffs ;)
I know, Future!!! Here we go again!! LOL
How long before we sign Marty McSorely to protect Kakko??
-
Yes!
...but I have faith in Gorton!
....I think!
-
Riskiest picks out there, IMO. Jack Hughes' linemate in last season's draft fell a bit. And more-so since.
Kaliyev, I've gone back and forth. He has a knack for scoring and putting up points. But I'm not impressed with his skating and play without the puck. He reminds me a little bit of Grachev or Kabanov, and his transition to the NHL could go either way. Not a guy I'd use a top pick on. Maybe think about it at 20, only based on his production in the OHL.
.....try this one on for size, my man:
If Podkolzin is still around at #20, do we take him? ;)
-
I'll play some
1. NJD - Hughes
2. NYR - Kakko
3. CHI - Turcotte
4. COL - Byram
5. LA - Cozens
6. DET - Kaliyev
7. BUF - Caufield
8. EDM - Dach
9. ANA - Krebs
10. VAN - York
Podkolzin is the wild card...He can possibly go anywhere from 3 to 31...so it's tough with him! LOL
But that looks good too, G Man!
-
I'll add here - I think Heinola is Reunanen's defensive partner on Lukko
I think you're right on your post before, G man; That #20 may get dealt in a package to move up. I would love to get my hands on Bowen Byram, but I think he's slated to go #3 overall. Alex Turcotte is looking like #5 as well. He's a good looking player right now as well.
What do you guys for top 10? I got this so far as of today:
1. Hughes - NJ
2. Kakko - NYR
3. Byram - Chi
4. Cozens - Col
5. Turcotte - LA
6. Podkolzin - Det
7. Caufield - Buf
8. Dach - Anh
9. York - Edm
10. Newhook - Van

Posted it in the Draft thread, my ridiculous level of forum discipline on full display today.fair point that we're totally sidetracking this thread.
Yeah, Sorry 'bout that, guys! I'll move it over to the draft thread as well.
-
I'm assuming BPA at 20 is one of:
Victor Soderstrom, D, Brynas (Swe.)
Moritz Seider, D, Mannheim (Ger.)
Thomas Harley, D, Mississauga (OHL)
Ville Heinola, D, Lukko (Fin.)
Generally, yes. BPA. I'm just hoping that's a big Dman.
I wouldn't mind this guy for #20. Depends on what's there at 20 though. A center isn't a bad idea either.
The #20 pick is really where all the thought is going to go. The #2 pick is a no brainer!
-
They gave up what turned out to be #20 for a shitty Hayes showing, and a 5th rounder....UGH! Gorton looking real good on that deal!!! Flyers seem like a better fit now that AV is there for Hayes. I wonder what kind of term and bucks they'll give for him. His playoff showing wasn't exactly what I'd call "noteworthy"!
-
News of the day seems to be that the Jets trade their rights to negotiate with Kevin Hayes to Flyers for Fifth Round Pick.
Guess ol' Kev wasn't too happy to play in Winnipeg!
-
What a fucking amazing moment.
Here we go!!
I was looking all over for this! Great stuff here with the 2 of them!!

I can't help but love JD!
Let's bring it home, Big Boy!

It means Tocchet's breath smells like hot dogs and he keeps Phil's attention like no other.

Sounds like the making of a raunchy ass opening night crowd! I think I like this!!
As it gets closer to September we'll get our shit together and get down there!

Kotkaniemi talked abut his 9 steak dinners last season. Teams take players out to dinner pre-draft. Not a huge deal.
Hell, anyone takes me out to dinner and I'm theirs, baby!!! ;)
The Rangers had me at HELLO!!!
-
Honestly at this point the remainder of my dream off-season would be:
-Fire Ruff
-Draft Kakko and find a way to snag Moritz Seider with a pick package to move up.
-Sign Panarin and MAYBE Skinner or Duchene without completely breaking the bank (I know it wont happen but I said dream dammit)
I'll go with numbers 1 and 2, Gunnar!
We may need all the money we have in the bank to resign Chytil, Kravtsov and Kakko when they become free agents eventually!!! ..A problem I really hope we have in the future!!!

Where is Howard's?
In Patchogue;
The intersection of Waverly avenue and Sunrise Highway....south side of sunrise.
Maybe we should do an opening night over there for BB boys?? ;)
RJ?? what do you think man?
