DMindedD Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Did he pinch in the offensive zone a lot, join rushes or score from blue line? Numbers amazing in 94 cup win.
Br4d Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Brian Leetch was one of the best end-to-end rush d-men in NHL history. He also scored a lot on the power play. 2 1
RJWantsTheCup Posted May 11 Posted May 11 If you’re asking about his 94’ playoff stats he scored 4 of his 11 goals on the power play. Unlike Fox he wasn’t afraid to shoot to score from the point. He was a master on knowing when to join the rush and possibly the best power play point man in Rangers history. As good as Fox is no Rangers defenseman was ever as good as Leetch. 1 1 2

Ozzy Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Fox is like "Diet Leetch". @RJWantsTheCup Robbie's got this one right. 3

As good as Fox is no Rangers defenseman was ever as good as Leetch. Leetch played 20 years ago where the majority of blocked shots were accidental. The gear is so significantly improved now, that no one is afraid to get in front of a shot. Shooting from the point to score is not a thing anymore. Just like the slapshot. Goalies are too good and players block too many shots.
RJWantsTheCup Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Couldn’t find an end of the season total but Bouchard led the league with 7 slapshot goals at the midpoint of the season. It isn’t what it used to be but it still is used in today’s game.
torontonyr Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Goalies were bad. Defenseman generally didn't score. He was a very good player.

Keirik Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Grand scheme of things, Leetch didn't not score goals but not as much in comparison to a Coffey or Bourque.
DMindedD Posted May 11 Author Posted May 11 the blocked shot point is a good one, i agree. i do think the skill level is higher now, defender is on puck faster, less room to work IMO, that is one of the rangers key strengths, they r quick to the puck. opponents have little time to operate and mistakes r made, coughing up loose pucks
Sod16 Posted May 11 Posted May 11 After he hurt his shoulder fairly early in his career, his shot was not that hard, but he knew when to take it and how to get it on net. Like other great defensemen of his era, he was such a good skater that he could join the rush and still get back. The PP, first with James Patrick as his partner and then that guy Neil saw fit to trade to Pittsburgh, always sizzled.

mbob Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Leetch had incredible end to end skills, combined with incredibly skilled teammates that could pass, puck posses and beat you either way. 1 1
Albatrosss Posted May 17 Posted May 17 It was a privilege to watch Leetch play. Thats all i gotta say 1 2
Ozzy Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Wow, that brings back some great memories! Leetch was one of those "once in a lifetime" players. 2
Sharpshooter Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Because he was an incredible hockey player. Will always be bitter they traded him.

He needed just one more season here to be the all time leader in games played and points. He would have been just the second Ranger ever with 1,000 points!

RJWantsTheCup Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Worst part about the Leetch trade is the only worthwhile thing the Rangers received was the pick that became Sauer.
