That is a huge, huge blow.  Depending on the severity of the tear, he can be out anywhere from 4-6 weeks at best or 3-4 months at worst. Either way, bad break for the Devils. Hughes may get the spotlight but Hamilton is right up there with him as far as importance goes.

The fact that he had surgery means it wasn't a minor tear, likely severe. And you aren't coming back from surgery in a matter of weeks. Typical duration for recovery is 4-6 months but for a young healthy athlete he might be able to return sometime in February barring any setbacks.

Hate seeing the guy or any guy suffer a severe injury but he couldn't find the DZ with a compass the last couple years. Somewhere along the way I think he decided he didn't need to play defense, probably after signing that big deal. His effort some games was downright embarrassing. Big part of why they've struggled if you follow some of the stuff on their board. Having no defensive D and 2 sieves is a big problem. huh, too bad.

Yeah, not surprised given the typical 4-6 month recovery time associated with these. It was always going to be optimistic returning for the end of the season. Might as well shut it down until next season and let him recovery properly.

They lost 2 top-6 defenders in the offseason and now another in the early going this season.

They’re fucked.

No team can survive that.

Add in the fact that their goaltending is in shambles.

Been some rumors out there about Gibson being a name the Devils have interest in. But they give up chances. Lots of them.

They could trade for mid-90’s Hasek right now and it wouldn’t matter.

Everyone overlooked the fact that they lost Graves and Severson. Two guys that played great for them last year and soaked up huge minutes.

Talked them up cause of all the speed and skill they have in that forward group. And overestimated their goaltending.

Lots of hockey left, but they just lost their best defenseman. They’re feeling the loss of the other 2 cause they can’t replace those minutes.
And their 2 goalies have been below average.

Pretty sure they’re fucked.

As bad as I don’t want to see them trade for someone like Gibson, who would solve a huge problem they have in net, I don’t think it vaults them into contender status. I watched tonight, and that team defensively is just lost.

Look at what they are missing on D. And they’re playing two kids back there now, in Hughes and Nemec, who are both very gifted, but very inexperienced and deficient defensively.

It will never happen but I would be thinking about offering up someone like Schneider for one of the devils’ talented middle six group. Schneider where he is is a luxury and someone like Dawson Mercer would make our third line look a lot more sane if chytil is not coming back

contract doesn’t work but that’s the idea, even though rivalry trades hardly ever happen. Both teams well positioned to help each other in this case tho
