Panarin and Trocheck: It's a Problem

3. Gallant has become somewhat sensitive over critiques of his constant line shuffling. That is understandable. Every coach craves stability. This one is no different.

But Gallant is dealing with mismatched pieces resulting from the fallout of the failure of Panarin and Trocheck to mesh. It’s as if the coach is working with a jigsaw puzzle that does not have enough corner pieces.

The last three seasons, the Rangers had a pair of power combinations up top in Kreider and Zibanejad on one unit and Panarin and Strome on the other. That — and the power play — became the club’s offensive signature.

Those from the peanut gallery attempting to devalue Strome’s contributions by claiming that anyone could play with Panarin appear to have been mistaken.

Not for nothing, but he should at least start giving the forum credit for every idea he's had over the past five years.

Do you really want the common hockey fan joining here?

have you gone through the rangers face book or Twitter page?

It's how we come together as a community. No act triggers camaraderie here quite like a belligerent outsider joining.

Or a belligerent outsider joining for the second time.

Or third time.

The bonds of fandom and friendship are truly forged in the joint hatred of a common evil. We unite, we celebrate a vanquished foe, we remember that Trocheck is somehow redundant and unnecessary on this team and like 80% of us saw this coming and get angry and throw beer.

A truly beautiful cycle.

Just tuning in. Looks like I missed the Chytil porn. Had to watch the short highlight clips. I still finished.

Not sure how you can watch him shoot the puck and not want that shot and finish on PP1.

Filip Chytil is the answer to Rangers’ baffling power-play problems

There is a simple fix to the Rangers’ ongoing power-play problems, and that is moving Filip Chytil onto the first unit in place of Vincent Trocheck.

Chytil has become his team’s second-most dangerous offensive weapon behind Mika Zibanejad. He is a shooter. He is a finisher.

Looking at Trocheck/Panarin advanced stats, the numbers are so very weird (naturalstattrick).

Panarin/Trocheck together: 53 xGF% but only 41 GF%,58 CF%, 57 FF%, 51 HDCF%

Panarin w/o Trocheck: 45 xGF% but 62.5 GF% (!!!), 49 CF%, 49 FF%, 46 HDCF%

Trocheck w/o Panarin: 48 GF% but 58 GF% (!!!), 48 CF%, 49 FF%, 49 HDCF%

Talk about an absolute nut twist for advanced analytics. On paper, the pairing should be working far better together than when apart, but it is the exact opposite.

Could be all the posts or all the bad puck luck from earlier in the season. But yeah, those stats indicate it’ll come back to the mean and they should produce very well together

Or we could watch the games and see that these two guys just aren't in the same page.

Yeah. If analytics are suggesting a story this different, it would stand to reason a return to the mean is in order. Otherwise, we might as well just throw analytics to the curb because we can't use them to support one narrative but disregard them to support another.

One of them always has his eye on the puck when it is loose and the other one is always carrying the puck with his eye on his teammates.

I don't have a problem with they just don't fit.  They're also both on the slight side and don't stand in front of the net much.
