Phil
Yeah, with Buch and Zucc out, I'd be trying to get Andersson and Chytil into the top-six right now. Not Ryan fucking Spooner.

Gravesy
Got to admit I feel for young Phil here, having to center a pair of wingers that can only be described as aids on ice. To be fair to Quinn, McLeod/Spooner/Lettieri would quite possibly be the worst NHL line of all time so you can see why that’s not an option. I'd rather see that 4th line than Namestnikov - Zibanejad - Spooner as a first line. woof

AliveIn94
They're trying to 'activate' Spooner's potential. Let's see what happens lol. Sent from my Z981 using Blueshirts Brotherhood mobile app powered by Tapatalk

josh
Spooner is 1-1-2 in 17 GP??? Jesus.... I thought he'd be better than that! That's been the story of his career. Now he'll go ppg in 8 straight. I still believe he was brought in as a Zuccarello replacement (who was supposed to be traded last deadline), get top-6 minutes this season, put up career high in points, then get shipped out this deadline, with the Rangers maximizing the value
LONG LONG LONG TIME FAN
On February 25, 2018, Spooner, Matt Beleskey, Ryan Lindgren, a 2018 first-round pick and a 2019 seventh-round pick were traded to the New York Rangers in exchange for Rick Nash.[8] On July 31, 2018, as a restricted free agent Spooner signed a two-year deal with the Rangers. And to think, the NYR gave up on the best $8 mil. PKER in the NHL!

Drew a Penalty
Problem is that's he's so bad that his contract is now a factor I think. He’s worth $2M at 50% of his contract. I can’t see why a fringe team wouldn’t take that hoping he’s just another Reilly Smith. Doubtful that he is but he’s a similar producer.
Gravesy
Quite possibly. I’d trade him for a 7th rounder and a pack of Peanut butter cups tbh

Giacomin
You guys know I was advocating Chytil on the wing for just this reason... and to take off some pressure from the D responsibilities. However, his D is growing and he really is a C and looks better at the position. It seems Quinn is seeing this, because he desperately wants to get him more minutes. Spooner is hard to figure. I've seen him play well in Boston. He skates well, good distributor, vision in O zone and decent shot, but something is lacking. I said this before, but it seems his lack of good d play eliminates turnover and other opportunities. His lack of physical play keeps him on the perimeter too often and losing puck battles. If you are only effective on clean plays and play 4th line minutes you're not going to score points. He seems fixable, but he hasn't flashed much at all, which is worrisome. His compete level is abysmal and he?s the kind of player where the ebb and flow of the game dictates how he plays, not the other way around. A textbook vanilla player. Giacomin
I don't want to retain on Spooner. I want money to sign Panarin and Hayes. First, just a friendly reminder to all: We should retain salary THIS YEAR on ANY player we trade since we need no cap room this year. Then there is the option of retaining for the entire contract. Second, we can easily sign Panarin and Hayes and also retain 2M on Spoon next year, the final year of his contract. For guys with longer contracts, we need to be more judicious with retention. Last, Spoon needs to get something going, before we'll be able to move him. We'll want something useful. Hate to say it, but there is no forwards to bring up and he is light years ahead of Lettieri, Nieves or McLoud. Besides we need somebody with NHL skills on Chytil's line. Besides Krav, we have no wings in the oven.

His compete level is abysmal and he’s the kind of player where the ebb and flow of the game dictates how he plays, not the other way around. A textbook vanilla player. Pretty much. Below average D, no physicality and needing perfect or clean plays to be effective makes it hard to be impactful. Too bad, he can look so good with time and space and makes quick decisions too. If he just had D drilled into his game he'd be a completely different player. A sure thing, instead of a fringe player. Maybe he can get hot eventually.
