Well, 1 year left, and the Rangers can probably get more from flipping him at the deadline.

 

Not really sure how he fits on the roster, though. He's a depth guy, bottom pair, stay-at-home defender. We dont have one on the right side (Pionk, Shattenkirk, DeAngelo), but he also needs a mobile partner that can move the puck - which we dont have on the left side (Skjei, Staal, Smith, O'Gara)

But at least he's tough as nails, and a character guy. He's exactly what Gorton wanted, it seems.

Tough as nails. One-year left. Provides tons of character/leadership for a young squad through to the deadline, then gets flipped for futures (arguably more than the Rangers gave up). It's win-win.

He can play on the 3rd unit until the deadline, by which time the situation with the younger defensemen should have sorted itself out to some degree and he can dispatched and replaced with one of the younger guy. The Board seems pretty enthusiastic based on who he used to be, but he's got a lot of miles on him and is coming off a major injury. I hope Quinn does not get AV syndrome and play him over a younger guy if he really should be a Kampfer style extra in the press box.

And he's been the defenseman that has the physicality that we have been lacking. Can't wait for him to see him play great in-your-face defense AND will bring that style of play near Hank's Crease! Maybe THAT was what we were missing! An Actual defensemen!
