2021 Training Camp Thread
Zuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuc replied to LindG1000's topic in New York Rangers
You think a couple weeks and 2-3 pre season games should be more important than the last 2-3 years of development and play? Schneider has played WHL and 2 AHL games while Lundkvist has been one of the best defenders in Sweden for a couple years now. I don't really care who looked better for 20 minutes against Devils AHL team. Camp is for the players to get in shape and for borderline players to either take a spot or lose a spot on the team. Look at Gauthier. Everyone thought he would be gone, but now he looks to have a spot on the opening roster. We knew this before last season ended, everyone was ready to see Lundkvist this season. But now because a couple new shiny toys had a couple good games against AHL competition we're gonna send him down? It doesn't really make sense. It's not like Lundkvist has struggled either, apart from the first game he's been really solid. Better defensively than both Jones and Schneider and he put up a few points and showed how good his shot can be. Let Jones and Schneider be "The guys" in AHL playing 20+ minutes a night in all situations and let the guys that have played against pro's for years now (Miller and Lundkvist) play in the NHL. -

Forget Eichel, Upgrade on Chytil
Zuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuc replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
They may not be super-talented 1st liners, but they're not 4th liners either. Look at where they played on Stanley cup winning teams and look at their production, that's not 4th liners. For argument's sake - What is a 4th liner to you? What's the aprox. point total for a 4th liner? Rangers 4th line in 13/14 was one of the best in league. Boyle had 18 points in 82 games, Moore had 18 in 72 and Carbomb had 3 in 32. Islanders last season, arguably the league's best 4th line. They all had 10-15 points in ~50 games. Averaged around 18-22 in 82. Goodrow had 20 in 52 last year, Blais had 15 in 32. -

That 4th line is a little meh, but that 3rd line could be really good. Experience, size, grit, skill enough to be a 3rd line, defensively solid. What more do you want from a 3rd line? -
Athletic Regression Candidate: Sammy Blais
Zuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuc replied to Pete's topic in New York Rangers
He had 8 in 36 last year, so it's obviously possible. Especially if he gets ice time with bread and butter, that often results in a few "free" goals. Just having a 4th liner that I know can produce and have enough skill to beat players one-on-one in the NHL is really exciting. No more McKegg, DiGi, Howden, Lias etc. -

Any news on who's playing? Gallant said the last two games would be as close to the opening roster as possible, so this could be a fun game. -
Athletic Regression Candidate: Sammy Blais
Zuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuc replied to Pete's topic in New York Rangers
I agree, but I was mainly thinking about with a full and healthy roster. I would try Krav on Panarin-Strome's wing before Blais if Kakko gets injured. Laf-Zib-CK Panarin-Strome-Krav Goodrow-Chytil-Blais Hunt-Roons-Reaves -

It will be interesting to see how Gallant does this. With all the talent we have on the wings, Blais can't really play top 6 minutes full time. It would lead to Kreider playing 3rd line and Kravtsov out of the lineup. Finding a balance where he can slot up in some games, but mainly play on the 4th line will be the key here. There have been games where our skilled players have been taken completely out of the game (especially against Islanders). That's the games where having a guy like Blais in the top 6 will be really useful, but mainly I want to see him, Roons and Reaves/Hunt give us one of the best 4th lines in the league. -

Isn't that what most people believe will happen? Rangers making a run for it, but ending behind those 4 teams? -
