Playoffs Rangers-Penguins Round One — General Series Thread
Dr. Jimmy replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
I've been thinking/saying this for awhile, something isn't quite right with him and hasn't been since he got hurt. He's still fighting something and I bet once the season ends we'll hear about it. -
Playoffs Rangers-Penguins Round One — General Series Thread
Dr. Jimmy replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
I think the team from the GM on down will learn from this. They made offseason moves to work towards a goal of making the playoffs, mission accomplished. They pretty much are getting their asses handed to them in the playoffs, but in the process are learning what needs to be done to achieve the next step of the rebuild: make a deep playoff run with a goal of reaching the ECF or even the SCF. The players are learning what they need to do to win in the postseason, whether it's ratchet up their intensity level, work on conditioning and stamina etc... and the management are learning where the holes are in the team that need to be addressed (which if they'd listened to us, could've fixed it months ago ) by watching the teams that are having success. Like I said, just making the playoffs after the last handful of years is a win and a solid step forward. These kids are getting some killer experience at a young age, everyone plays their cards right and this team can be something special for quite a few years..... -
Gotta dance with who brung you. Igor hasn't been as horrible as the numbers make him look, a lot of those goals are due to putrid defense (and to be fair some of the goals are softies he should've gotten). If he's gonna be our guy going forward then unfortunately he's gonna have to take some lumps along the way, this team will grow together and a shitshow series like this will (hopefully) make them all stronger as a team. Starting Geo here will only undermine not only Shesty's confidence, but the teams confidence in him, no way can GG let that happen. At this point the series is over, yeah they might steal a game on Weds but that just sends it back to Pittsburgh on Friday to close it out. He deserves the right to close out this season.....

As much as it's sucking right now, I can't really say I'm disappointed. We knew coming into this that there are glaring holes on this team as well as a lot of youth with little to no experience playing this many games etc.... they made it this far which is further than they have in the last bunch of years.

Hey, we made the playoffs this year, that's a positive step. Now it's time to assess what we need to move/acquire in the offseason to move to the next level and make a deeper playoff run. Use this as a chance to get the kids feet wet in playoff hockey, it's invaluable experience for them. I mean, at this point how else can you look at it?

Barry Trotz Out as Islanders Coach
Dr. Jimmy replied to Blue Heaven's topic in Hockey Around the Globe
I hate the Isles as much as I can hate anything in this world, but I've always liked Trotz, he's a good hockey guy and from all reports just an all around good guy. I think he did a great job with that team and it's odd that after one poor season following two remarkable ones, they felt the need to cut him loose. There's more to the story I'm sure. Either way, he'll end up on his feet somewhere, he's too good to not be coaching..... -
Playoffs Rangers-Penguins Round One — General Series Thread

Ok, so let's take them off their game. Start putting bodies on them hard whenever there's a chance. Remember when Trouba was steamrolling guys? Bring that back. Reaves? Get back to railing guys (yes, including Sydney). Make them think twice about going into a corner hard. Malkin is totally disengaged at this point partially due to being knocked around a bit. One hard shot on Guentzel and the same will happen. Igor will be fine, every goalie lays a turd once in a while and Saturday he dropped one, he knows what he needs to do and he'll bounce back. Not worried about scoring because that scrub lets them in in bunches, hammer him with shots from all over, crash the net and make him flop. -

Ok, this guy is 14:30 into his 15 minutes. The second period yesterday shows that if you hammer him with shots, he flops around and gets rattled. Let the bangers come out and bang and the shooters come out and shoot. If we brought the intensity that we had throughout the season this series would be over tomorrow, -

I said this in the other thread but I'll repeat it here, by the time Domingue came in the Rangers had already played just about 5 periods and were sucking wind. With rest and fresh legs coming at him he'll look more like the journeyman/AHL goalie he is. -

Especially pound Malkin, he has a tendency to get frustrated and take stupid penalties..... -
GDT 2021-22 ECQF #1: (2M) Rangers vs. (3M) Pittsburgh Penguins — to War!

Turn the page on it, learn your lessons from it, hydrate and get ready for tomorrow. Team (sans Igor) got a reality check on taking the foot off the gas in the playoffs. -

Reavo should be in for at least game one in case the Pens want to play physical to set the tone, he'll keep them from doing that. Things got a little chippy the last time these two played so I wouldn't put it past the Pens to try that.... -
I'm in, probably first out......

GDT [RS] (#79) Rangers @ Boston Bruins — Afternoon Delight
Dr. Jimmy replied to Morphinity 2.0's topic in New York Rangers
This ^^^^^ Boston had more to play for than we did, we're in the "make minor tweaks and for the love of God don't get hurt" mode. Rest guys that need it, play guys that could use work and don't sweat wins/losses. -
GDT [RS] (#78) Rangers @ New York Islanders — Melee at MSG East
Dr. Jimmy replied to Morphinity 2.0's topic in New York Rangers
After three straight shutouts they play lazy tonight and blow an early 2-0 lead, take a 4-2 L. Thankfully no one gets hurt and they move on. Goal scorers: Zib and Goodrow Trivia: Greg Gilbert
