Playoffs Rangers-Lightning Round Three — General Series Thread
Dr. Jimmy replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
"But....but....we don't have Braden Point, so of course you're gonna beat us." Ya know what? Go fuck yourself, you just swept the Panthers without him so i don't think losing him is as vital as you think. I don't think his absence is what caused Vasihoweverthefuckyouspellit to let in 9 over two games. Honestly, they don't look "over-rested" they look tired, apart from the last 6-7 minutes last night (and the Rangers better not let that happen again) they were a step or two behind the entire game. Stamkos and Hedmen looked dead in the post game presser last night, not the usual cliche spewing post loss stuff either, these guys looked completely gassed and defeated. I am not counting them out by any stretch, but I do think the hole for them to dig out of is deeper than they'd like. -

They'd be the first team in close to 40 years to win more than two in a row, I'm sure the players/coaches, owners and any sponsors with financial ties to the team are well aware of this and care VERY much that they can claim being the first in so long to do so. -

The intangible here, which I believe someone may have alluded to, is the intense pressure on Tampa to three-peat. They've been hearing about it since they hoisted the cup last year, and it's been a constant bug in their ears all season long. Yeah, they have experience and have been here before, but this season they have the added stress of another cup run. They struggled against a decent, not great, Toronto team that took them to seven games and caught a break against a very overrated Panthers team. This will be the first series in which they play a team that has a legit shot to win it and that team has home ice. -

How many times have we seen an 8 seed come to life and win it all? Anything can happen in the playoffs..... -

I was thinking a lot about this exact thing, being in their heads etc.... I thought it was interesting that Raanta got pulled when he did, it was like 3:30 into the second, pretty close to 40 minutes of game left. Either: - Brind'amour had no confidence his guys were gonna get chances let alone score since they've been pretty ineffective, plus Shesty. - No confidence Raanta could stop the bleeding, which is nuts because it was only 3-0 with almost two full periods to go. That type of lead can vanish within minutes. - He saw something with Raanta either physically or mentally that led him to pull him and have him start resting for game 7, all but conceding this game (or hoping for Domingue pt. 2). Any one of these reasons plants a seed of doubt, either in Raanta, who looked completely shell shocked on the bench, moreso than I've ever seen a pulled goalie look, or the team itself seeing their goalie pulled and not being able to rally around their third string guy. On top of all this, I don't know if you all know this but Carolina hasn't lost at home yet during these playoffs. Of course you know this because everyfuckingbody mentions it every 4.7 seconds, the booth guys, the studio guys, the concession guys, the hooker on 43rd, the backup zamboni repairman etc....... Most importantly the Canes know it. Just like a pitcher throwing a no-no the pressure getting heavier as the innings move along (on him and the team) with each game in Raleigh the pressure to keep the streak going intensifies, they know they're not gonna win every home game, the shoe is gonna drop at some point, but when? You can see it last night, they're already looking tense, obviously the crowd and the Rangers play had a lot to do with it, but watching your goalie get yanked at such an odd moment and their own inability to generate much definitely adds to the noise in their heads. This all led them to resort to the garbage we saw at the end of the game, which we need to stay away from, let them fuck themselves. Remember also, this is a Canes team that a bunch of writers and pundits predicted to win the ECF and make a strong run at the Cup, so there's that pressure as well. Game 7 is gonna be a wild one........ -

Gotta be smart about it though, can't go running amok hitting and taking dumb penalties for it. Stay focused on your game and when the right opportunity presents itself THEN lay a big hit. Just running around hitting anything that moves for the sake of it is a quick way to be down 3-0 by the end of the first...... -
I will say the kids aren't looking tired, and that was a worry I had that the grind of the long season and intensity of playoff hockey would wear them down, instead they're more energetic than some of the vets. I think they all learned a bit from game one that the Canes > Pens and need to be approached differently, they bounce back and take game two 4-2.

Considering he hadn't played in over a month and first game back is a game seven on the road, I think Jarry did a hell of a job last night. Looked a bit rusty at first but as the game wore on, he started to find his groove.
