damn, as someone who had to go through something similar, that Teppo Numminen line was a bit of a tear jerker

Rocked my Kachina last night and watched (and cashed Yotes ML lol). Just a tough thing to watch happen.

I hope the NHL figures out a way to make it work there again.

I love those jerseys and the whole logo and everything. It sucks that they finally started using them again last year and now they're moving. lol

Yeah, we just have to rough it for a little bit.  DJ is always a shot in the arm, and I forgot about Dominguez!!!  Hockey season...that's why!   😉

It should be a good year though!  I'd love to see these guys get to the post season!

I think they can. Baltimore is loaded and will give this team a run for its money for the division. That or the wild card is absolutely feasible, especially if the pitching can round out into form.

I love the big 3 in the OF, and I'm not terribly down on the infield.

Volpe has a great glove and Berti the 3rd baseman looks pretty decent so far.  Gleyber is gonna be Gleyber..I know.  But he has his moments.

With Gleyber, he has a lot of skill and ability, but his baseball IQ just isn't there, and he gets down on himself for everything. He's just mentally soft. I don't see them bringing him back anyway, because re-signing Soto needs to be a priority. DJ will be back soon enough and we still have Dominguez as well. I think their system now is the best it has been in a very long time. Lots of reasons to be excited otherwise.

How much do you love Soto??  ...Guy is a beast!

A guy with left-handed power was needed at Yankee Stadium. Who knew? lol One of my main critiques about this team the last few years was that they basically had no left-handed power hitters, and were far too right-handed down the lineup. Soto is a franchise player, generational type of talent who really needs to be retained at all costs. Getting Verdugo was a nice move as well. A solid lefty hitter who works counts and draws a lot of walks. This current lineup feels more like the old school Yankees lineups where they have patience and work at-bats.

So far my big disappointments are Torres being absolutely terrible in all facets and the infield defense being pretty terrible.

  5. Yeah, Laf, as a first overall pick, came into a situation that most first overalls don't come in to, a team ready to contend. His growth was stunted a bit because of that. This year? Absolutely tremendous strides. The fact he did what he did without really much PP time is pretty incredible. I don't see how Lav doesn't re-evaluate that for next season. Get him some time on the top unit and see what he does.

  6. Agreed. I feel like the last four or five drafts have been quite good. They were also fortunate to end up with a first overall pick in a year where, normally, they really wouldn't be a lottery team. But, it was something that worked out great for the Rangers. I think they have drafted a good combination of possible future stars as well as good bottom six guys and depth pieces. At the very least, I think they will be more than competitive further down the road, even when Panarin and Mika aren't here, or in the twilight of their careers.

  7. It wasn't a must-win or anything, but if you're going to lose two out of three, that's the way to do it. lol They definitely needed that. I'm still concerned about the rotation and rather piecemeal bullpen. Hopefully Cole and Kahnle come back sooner than later because they are very much needed. Stanton playing better is going to be huge for this team. I really hope it keeps up and he remains healthy.

I loved this series. I had no context, but this world sucked me in almost immediately. Incredible finale.

The finale was one of the best finales of anything I've seen in recent memory. Incredible, and an awesome set up for season two. Another season hasn't been officially confirmed, but there's already rumblings about it. I mean, it's going to happen. lol The show has been a rousing success for Amazon. You don't really need to have played the games, or have any context at all to enjoy it. Yeah, you might miss some small references, but it's really not a big deal. Just a well done show, in general.

Are we sure that is true about him being sick? The Rich Eisen show said he is not sick at all after talking to him. Just that he decided he wants to retire and doesn't want to announce anymore.

That is indeed true. Michael Kay was talking about it during the game and he said nothing is wrong with health-wise, he just decided early on this season he was just done, that it was time.

  10. Thanks for the memories, Coyotes. I will always hold your late 90's teams of Roenick, Tkachuk and Khabibulin close to my heart. I really liked those teams. Other than that, it hasn't been so hot there for the most part. They did have Shane Doan, so that's something. Happy trails.

  11. Washington has been playing shutdown playoff hockey for about two months or so. One thing the Rangers really need to stop doing is giving up the first goal. Despite their success, that's been a major problem for what feels like one or two months of hockey. You give Washington the lead off the bat, and they're just going to start grinding and frustrating you, and the Rangers may have some serious issues countering that.

Talk about the metrics all you want.

They were great defensively and in goal… 2nd in the league in GA.

But 2nd to last in goals for.

They got hot at the right time, Carter was a big addition for them, and they capitalized on the fact that their style of play was conducive to playoff hockey.

Just like Washington for the last month or two. lol Nothing will come easily.

I don't consider Boston in that upper tier of teams in the East along with NYR/CAR/FLA. It's only all the loser points that puts them there. To me they're clearly more of a 2nd tier team alongside TOR/TBL. Which is why I think the Leafs should legitimately have a decent shot of eliminating them, despite all their first round choke jobs.

I mean Boston is definitely a step or two down from what they were last season. They are still really good, though. I'd put those three teams mentioned above them too, but they are legit contenders even if there are more chinks in the armor this year than that ultimate season they had prior. This is definitely Toronto's best chance at beating them, though.

Don't sub 500 teams make the playoffs in football fairly regularly?

I don't know about fairly regularly, but it can happen. It just happens more in the NHL because you can get rewarded for losing, and it makes a handful of teams more competitive and 'in the race' than really should be.
