I don't know if it's too early to say "make or break kind of season", but Andersson really needs to show me a lot more. Even if it still may be too early, I haven't been too enthused. I think he certainly has potential to be a decent bottom six center. I still don't think they should have wasted that first round pick on him which is why I might be harder on him than most might be. I guess going into the season, if that's one of my big worries, we may be OK. lol

This is an extremely rare win/win position for the Rangers (including a lot of luck landing the #2 pick). lol

Amazing isn't it???
Giving Gorton full props too!!! The guy is in the process of turning goat piss into gasoline here!!!
Gorton was a top executive prospect for a reason. He's just getting started, too.

What's interesting to me is that we went from having NO future on defense other than Brady Skjei to almost definitely having a bright, bright future on defense in only a year. Like, Trouba/Skjei/DeAngelo/Fox are basically locks. Beyond that, however, now there's Hajek, Keane, Miller, Lundkvist and Reunanen.
One way or another, we have a definite top 6 for the next decade.
Yeah, great point. Looking at the defense a month or so ago gave me the shivers. But, now, damn. I can't wait to see more of Hajek. Him getting injured really sucked. He looked really good his brief stint.

Depends where his head is. Trouba + Kakko + Panarin? = motivated Henrik. Maybe not 2012 Henrik, but something close.
If he can't get his game going for that type of lineup next season, he retires.
I'm sure he's bummed we didn't sign Karlsson, but if those additions don't add some excitement, I don't know what to tell him. lol

He does want to stay as long as he's happy, but last year he did not look happy most of the time. It was coming off back to back seasons in which the Rangers were non factors for the first time in his career. He couldn't quite handle it, along with the fact that his skills are diminishing. I would never say never, but I still don't see him going anyway, and he'll just play out the rest of his contract here. Maybe then he goes elsewhere depending on other team's goalie situations or he just retires.

TSN: Water is wet.

Slow news time of the year means Larry gets to make stuff up. Well, more so than usual anyway.

There's no interest in players who pretty much suck and have bad contracts. Who would have thought? lol

They also had the impressive stretch of getting to the playoffs for 25 straight years. They had some great teams in that mix too. It was fun that one year when they had Hull and Gretzky together.
-
It sucks we have to wait until the fall, this can't happen soon enough.

They said it was the first win in Stanley Cup Finals history for the Blues. They were 0-13 after game 1. That kind of blew my mind. Make it to the Cup Finals 3 different times and get swept each time.
They made it to the SC Finals their first three years in existence, and got swept all three times, then didn't get back to the Finals until this year. It's very odd.

Cool stories, NY Chief. Those late 70's - early 80's Rangers were pretty solid teams. The Islanders were just a lot better at the time.

Mess wants get back in the NYR organization and I don't think he was happy when he wasn't a candidate for the HC position.
He wasn't. He probably wanted the position of President too as well as the GM position before Gorton got it. But yeah, in one form or another, he will be back here.
-
Messier eventually having a prominent role in this organization is as sure a thing as the sun rising tomorrow morning.

All those interviews were really great. I am excited he's here. He's a rink rat who just knows his hockey. He also knows New York, what it's like to play here, and how difficult he can be. He'll know what players to look for when it comes to having that character and determination. I love this answer to the free agency questions too. That was perfect. It reminded of the Rangers of the late 90's and early 2000's who would sign all these veteran players, but really have no role for them.

Can they give him double salary to go back in the booth too? At least for 10 home games
That would be sweet. lol At the very least we'll be seeing him on TV doing interviews and whatnot. So, that will be good.

After this hearing I doubt we hear sathers name
More than once or twice a season any more.
Exciting stuff.

For sure. Thank God.

Everything about the Rangers I know is changing... and it's a fucking great thing.
I am thrilled for the future of this organization.
You have to love the upper management with Gorton and now JD. Even with Sather still there, that's a pretty sweet front office.

Columbus Blue Jackets president of hockey operations John Davidson resigned from his post with the team on Friday after previously speaking to the New York Rangers about their vacant team president position.
Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports Davidson will be introduced by the Rangers on Wednesday.
"The New York Rangers recently sought permission from our organization to speak with John Davidson about serving as their team president," Blue Jackets president Mike Priest said in a release. "That permission was granted and today John has resigned his position as the president of hockey operations and alternate governor with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Or JD saying I am bringing A, B, and C with me and we need to clear space for them.

Indeed. It's pretty much hand in hand. It should be interesting to see who he brings in.
