I'm satisfied with what they got already. That move hopping in front of the Devils was great especially realizing that they most certainly seemed to be leaning towards taking a d-man.
I'm on the fence with Strome. I've always been a big fan of his and felt he didn't get the positive attention I think he's earned but I also don't want to go long-term with him. Ideally, I'd like them to be able to sign him for this upcoming year and then possibly trade him near the deadline. I don't necessarily feel the Rangers need to jump into the 2nd round here. They've already had a highly successful draft.
I think that would probably be better. I do wish they had a second round pick, though, but yeah, it's pretty difficult to complain about where they are already have just one round. I was kind of hoping they would've taken a center with the second first rounder, but it's still hard to complain about getting a guy like Schneider, especially since he went maybe a bit lower than he was projected. Lafreniere sounded open to playing center in interviews. I don't know if they would actually do it, but it had to be on their mind if they didn't seem too worried about not drafting one with that other pick.

Getting Lafreniere and Gorton basically sniping New Jersey and taking Schneider made for a great all around night. I'm hoping they can make a deal somehow and get into the second round, maybe make Strome a part of that. I don't know. It would have been nice to have at least one second round pick since this draft is quite deep.

2020 can eat a bag of dicks.

Damn. Great deal for Columbus. Josh Anderson? lol Uhhh...

Are you referring to the last time they picked first overall in the early 60's? He never played in the NHL. The players I mentioned were just guys that were high picks with a lot of hype that never amounted to anything.
-
Or this brilliant first round selection by the Rangers which changed the course of this franchise...
Although I thought it was hilarious that the Flyers absolutely had to have Brendl as part of the Lindros trade, and then he bombed. :slats:

Hell to the no.

I stand corrected. Friday at noon it is.

Gary Thorne or Doc Emrick...hmmmm
Can’t forget Steve Levy
Now that I think about it...retro jerseys making a come back, ESPN wanting back
Let’s do itttttttt
That's a good point about Steve Levy. I kind of felt he was underappreciated/underrated as a hockey announcer. I do miss the days of Gary Thorne, Bill Clement and NHL Tonight, though, I won't lie.

Draft tonight and Free Agency begins on Saturday. Fun, fun.

Now we just have to hope Lafreniere doesn't become Pavel Brendl or Alexandre Daigle or something. :D
-
If he were willing to be a backup, they may have kept him around another season.
Correct. I think if he was all in on being a backup, he would probably still be here.
-
He knows/thinks he can still play. It was just not going to be here.
-
I think Washington or Colorado are good bets.

Happy Alexis Lafreniere Day, everyone!

I would say much further. Winning the second overall last year and the first overall this year was a huge boon for this organization, especially getting the first overall pick despite being a bubble team this season.
-
I think they can certainly be in the playoff picture next year. As far as true Stanley Cup contenders go, I think that's at least three years away or so. The team is in very good hands and we should all be excited. Even though I know they won't be contenders for a bit, it's still going to be fun watching this team grow and so forth. That's a lot more than I can say from how it was in the late 90's and early 2000's where they were basically treading water with the same crap.

I'm really hoping Laf becomes a Gilbert-like offensive player. I think Rod was the last really good offensive forward this team developed. By really good, I mean super elite, Hall of Fame type talent. Having Zib and Panarin is great, but it would be nice to see this organization finally develop some top notch forwards. I think it's been this franchise's main bugaboo. You've been a fan a lot longer than I have, so you can probably attest to that.
-
This is probably completely wrong. I reserve the right to edit my post. In this scenario, we give up #22, and Buch, in some kind of deal that involves Laine (this probably doesnt work at all, idk what im doing)

Sorry, that one's on me. I thought you meant it was all ifs and buts, but Richter is a SC Champ and Hank isn't so that's that. :palm:
