  1. I've heard all of the negativity about it as Phil mentioned. I am still somewhat interested in binging it at some point, though, just to check it out for myself finally. Are there maybe seasons or chunks of episodes I can skip? I've heard the show is very hit or miss across most of the seasons. It kind of sounds to me like maybe it went on a bit too long.
  2. I really can't add anything that hasn't been said already, great informative posts. I can say that this indeed a perfect time to start following the Rangers as they are building a new core and it's a group you can kind of grow up with. They are already one of the youngest teams in the league, and will only continue in that trend. When they are winning, there's no greater feeling in the world. Unfortunately you missed their peak run from 2011-2015, but greater days are ahead. The rebuild has no doubt been sped up significantly with Lafreniere, already addding to Kaako's addition from last year's draft.

Other than that, I've always liked their Original Six status, they play in NYC at MSG, their fantastic jerseys, and there's just this charm to them that I can't really explain. Even if they might not have the best luck in the world, they almost always have good intentions. If you are a reader, there are tons of really good Rangers books available on Amazon regarding their history and anything else you may want to know.

  3. 100%. They're not building for one run at the cup. They're building (hopefully) the next Washington Caps team. Or Boston Bruins. A team that has a shot at winning every year for 15 straight years. Because it's really fucking hard to pull it off. Giving yourself more than one shot is hugely important.

Yes. There's potential here to have a much bigger window for a championship (or championships) than during the Lundqvist Era. Another team other than Washington and Boston would be the Blackhawks.

  4. Lapierre also had three concussions and neck problems before he's played a single NHL game. Buyer beware. Zary and Bourque, I'd buy, but both went well after the Rangers' pick. The Devils, Blue Jackets, Capitals, and Flyers all passed on bot, and the Avs, Blues, Ducks, Senators and Knights all passed on Bourque.

Your characterization is also pretty short, IMO. He's more than a "bruising D." McIlrath was a bruising D (who brought basically nothing else). Read the reports on Schneider. He's basically a really safe NHL pick who'll probably play a ton of games because he's just plain good at his role.

Potentially a Staal-like defenseman, maybe even better. It's still a good selection overall.

  5. Wheeler:

Agree with the overall assessment in the last paragraph.

After reading about him, like the player, just not sure moving up to select him was that right move considering the forward talent still there. I know they don't have a second rounder, but did they really need a D?

I don't really care about "stealing a Devil's pick" because they did that shit with Sanguinetti and missed out on Giroux. Hope this isn't a redux.

Yes, this is how I feel also.

  6. Picking defensive defensman is boring as hell... Like when your NFL team picks O Lineman in the 1st quite often.. BORING.... Then your O Line is awesome and you run around praising how smart your GM is.. I wanted a C, but man would it be nice to have the terms "Rangers" and "excellent defensive team" be actively used in the same sentence again.

Yeah, their defense hasn't been great in quite some time. He sounds like a Staal type of defenseman who hits more which certainly isn't a bad thing. I don't know. Like I said, I don't hate having him in the organization, I just don't think it's someone I would've traded up to pick.

  7. I don't think you can ever have too many good, tough defenseman, Sharpy! LOL

I like this pick, and it seems as though the Rangers put a little crimp in the plans of the Devils with it. NJ went defense as well, but further down the board a bit. So I think the Devs were going with Schneider as well! ...or so it looked to me.

If anything they are much deeper on defense, so yeah, can't complain. Like I said I don't hate the pick at all, I just thought they'd take a center. But, there's more rounds and free agency, so whatever. Schneider is still 2-3 years away from even being in the discussion anyway.
