Getting beat in 5 or 6 as the WC isn't worth years 5,6, and 7 on a Kreider extension.

Chicago style pizza is an abomination..

Buch had always given me that same space cadet vibe that Anisimov did.. But this year there seems to be much more awareness in his game, and he's not afraid to put the wood to someone.. This shot on the RatFucker was just pure gold, that had to get all sorts of props in the room.
-
I had no idea he is John Madden's kid.. I'm really getting old.
-
Some (well, virtually all of you) know other systems better than I... What does Colorado have? Kadri out for a bit, now Rantanen down.. I believe they have a ton of cap space, Kreider looks like a great fit in that lineup right now.

Looking back at 2010 thru the Anderson draft, there busts in the top 10 of each draft, a couple of those drafts have 2 or even 3.. Gorton & staff whiffing on Anderson is neither unique or unprecedented. It really sucks, but it happens- often.
GM's whiff on picks, in other news water is wet.
-
Fantastic. Winning is immaterial at this point since they're not making the playoffs, so who really cares?
It's a pretty ridiculous argument to have. Who helps my draft pick get worse? I think I'll play him more!

this roster is really weird, you could make a very compelling case for trading 10 guys, and make an alternatively compelling case as to why trading those same guys would be a bad idea.
I don't want to see any more awful contracts for guys on the wrong side of 30, so I'm in team trade.. But it's not quite as cut and dry as the last 2 years IMO

Thats why you have one post every other day? :slats:
I'm the worst I'll admit it... 10 minutes after you lose game 3 to get down 2-1 in a series, I'm firing coaches and trading the Zamboni driver.. By the morning I've devised a clear and rational path to winning that series and somehow sweeping the rest of the post season.. That 80% group should probably be called "Lunatics or People in Need of Professional Help"
-
Every sports message board has the same basic posters:
- 10% are those predisposed for overly glowing hyperbole and unrealistic expectations.
- 8% are Eeyore/Oscar the Grouch. They find the negatives in every player, coach, or aspect of play. Beats it in to the ground, even when the player/team are playing well. Nothing is ever good enough
- 2% Mr Right. This poster wants nothing more that to be right 100% of the time, even if it means the team or player faltering to support their argument.
- 80% Are just fans. Get down in the dumps when its going poorly, flying high when things are going well. Will agree and disagree, bicker and chirp, hug and high five.
It would be cool if everyone was in the last group.. But the first 3 groups are what make a place like this a hell of a lot of fun.

Dude makes $7m/yr. Who cares if he's a dumbshit? Marry my daughter, PLEASE!

As a father of daughters, you have won this argument.

He was asked about Igor in the comments- said had he been included the Rangers would have moved up to #2..

Sadly, there are no happy ending alternatives with Hank being in a Rangers uniform.
In my mind, the reality of the situation say that you put all 3 goaltenders in a hat and pull a name before every game, I can't say with any confidence that one of the 3 are clearly the best, or the worst of the bunch. The defense is a sieve far too often, requiring a stand on the head performance by the goalie. The 3 goalie rotation is a terrible plan- its the hockey equivalent of a QB rotation in football.. If you have 3 goalies, you don't have a goalie..
The part that hurts is there is absolutely no benefit in playing Hank the rest of the year- This team is not going to make a run (its not even going to sniff the playoffs if we are being honest here). The other 2 may not give the team a better chance to win today, but they do learn and benefit from the experience and hopefully help win tomorrow. The only positive outcome is Hank asks for a trade and gets one more shot at a playoff run. I don't see it happening sadly, and its going to make the rest of this year hard - as Igor probably should get the bulk of the starts with Georgiev getting 30% of the remaining starts.. Hank really should be eating popcorn in a suit the rest of the year.

There was no great groundswell demanding OT when it was first instituted, and there were far fewer regulation ties back then. I don't think you should get 2 points for a 3 on 3 skills competition, much less a shootout. Here are the regulation records of the Rangers and the two current wildcard teams, with points awarded 2-1-0, as they were through 1983.
NYI 19-15-17 55 Pts
Phil 20-17-16 56 Pts
NYR 23-22-7 53 Pts
We should be two points out of a playoff spot. I don't understand why the hockey press is not constantly pulling up numbers like these and decrying the number of ties (NY Tielanders)
Awesome stuff..
I really think we have seen an entirely different brand of hockey created because of the OT and shootout changes. Play for the tie and hope your show ponies are better than their in the skills contest (or hope Robin Lehner is on the other team)
-
College Football and Hockey were better with ties. As Ozzy mentioned, scrap OT all together for all I care. Go the soccer format 3 for the win, 1 for the tie if you must .. Just make the win so much more valuable. I think the 3 on 3 and shootout are gimmicks, I'd rather leave from a hard fought 2-2 tie than watch a skills contest to decide you gets the extra point. I will never understand the concept of getting a point in a game you lost.
Old Fart Mode engaged!
And while I'm "Old Man Yelling at Clouds" give me back the Prince of Whales and Campbell Conferences and the Adams, Patrick, Norris, Smythe
-
Speaking my language.. 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie.. no more shootouts.. You lose in OT? you lost.. No point for you!
-
Well, he says it’s a trade that makes sense to him.
I think he’s over cooking it personally. I’d be surprised if the Blues give up Kyrou for a rental.
The Blues got a taste last year and they know they still have a win now team.. Banners fly forever as they say. That is exactly the kind of trade partner you want, a Cup is right there- they know what it takes- and they are willing to say fuck it to go for another shot.
And as far as returns go in general, no reason not to ask for the world, you might just find someone who just cant say no- like a Bob Gainey
-
I think there was a version of analysis paralysis that was impacting both Trouba and BS.. hopefully this frees each of them up a good bit
-
Brady and Trouba needed to be split.. The shame of it is Lindgren and Fox were a really good pair.. I hope there are some natural synergies between these new pairings.
-
Considering our last new names have been the Golden Knights, Blue Jackets, and Wild.. I'm fine with a little creativity, even if borderline silly.. A little eccentricity is never a bad thing
-
Only way to get a good haul is to ask for one.. GM's make some really bad decisions from time to time. I just hope Gorton is the face of regret Dubas sees the morning after the trade has been consummated.

Why is he only trying now in his walk year, huge red flag for me
This whole narrative is funny to me. And wrong.

Al macinnis is fucking 56 and just cranked a 100mph shot.

What Would You Consider a Successful Trade Deadline Day for Gorton and the Rangers?

Would it be staying status quo and making a run for the Wild Card, trading Kreider, or a massive shakeup?
My ideal scenario would be:
1. Trade Kreider for 3 assets (a combo of NHL or near NHL talent and Draft Picks.. Might be 2 players and a #1 or 2 picks and a player)
2. Trade Skjei in a real hockey trade. Carolina now has a big hole, Florida is a partner here.. This would be the move that gets me the most excited
3. Trade Fast for a pick- I'd love to see him land a 2nd rounder. But probably a 3rd.
