  1. No Miller yet still having 9 of the top 155 is dammed exciting
  2. The Ferraro twins.. EXACTLY like the Sedin twins, just not good at hockey
  3. Perhaps its just me, but I'd like to see the kid play a meaningful NHL game before I anoint him a top 6 staple.. Perhaps I got burned on the Kakko hype, but starting on the 3rd line and growing might not be the worst thing in the world. But what the hell do I know.
  4. Sure looks that way.. Looks to me like JD, Gorts and Drury seem to have a totally different opinion..
  5. 1. Home Town discount.. Closing out the career at "home" I'm sure has value to many. 2. Playing for a Cup.. Toronto may be flawed, but they are closer to contending today than the Rangers. Larry must be bored as hell. Perhaps we can get Joey Mullen to sign a one year deal
  6. It just occurred to me... Do you all realize just how depressingly sour this board would have been had the Rangers ball not come up in the lottery drawing??
  7. I wouldn't say no if he wanted it.. I'd rather see him wait it out and Cup chase like hell, I'd like to see him hoist it before he retires.
  8. 3 years left.. back loaded deal- but "only" 4.05 aav. He's time in Toronto was a bit hot and cold to say the least. I don't think he's a terrible player, wonder what that deal would look like to get him out of Carolina? Can't be much and at full salary perhaps nothing of bote at all.
  9. Habs spending money like a drunk sailor on shore leave. Glad to see it.
  10. If he ever actually fights some of them, we will have an issue. Until then its just hyperbole from a dude that loves the sound of his own voice. As a genral aside, reading the responses to athlete tweets, they should have the ability to beat a few asses every now and again.
  11. Tony is a turd on Twitter.. so what! I'm far more concerned with how he acts in his own end than what he is retweeting. Fans are a fickle bunch when it comes to what is and isn't acceptable out of players, muscians, actors etc. Not everyone agrees with me, and I'm totally cool with that, play well and try not to commit felonies. I don't have a particularly hight bar. Hell, lots of Rangers fans sprobably love Craig MacTavish for winning that last draw in the 94 Finals. He killed a lady for christsakes.
  12. Add to my negatives: Limited flow- no head lettuce to speak of.
  13. I sent Gorts a note saying I'd take 700k for this year 4th Line guy Attributes- Fun guy in the room, great teammate, experienced bridge between management and younger guys Negatives- Shitty Skater, 47, bad shoulder, gassy.
  14. I don;t think Smith was a good deal, I don't think Brady S was a good deal, Trouba is a shit ton of money for a guy that hasn't sniffed being an 8 mill per defender.. He's made some great trades, but he's also given out some very questionable contracts. It's not unfair at all to say his tenure has been a mixed bag.
  15. The dead cap space is a shared issue. But Gorton owns a good bit of the blame. Slats handed out the Girardi deal (still have 2 more years of bills to pay on that pile of shit contract) Staal was a bad deal as well, injuries more of the culprit but a bad deal nevertheless - Gorton gets bonus points for getting that one off the books. The Hank deal is hard to criticize, much like Panarin, you pay for the 1st 5 and hope the last few aren't a total dumpster fire. That is a forgivable crime IMO... Gorton has the Shattenkirk deal squarely hanging around his neck. He was a weird fit at the time of signing, and he was never healthy- that buy-out is gross. The Smith deal is horrible (in full disclosure I thought it was a good signing at the time- after all he did look solid post deadline- so both Gorton and I are shitheads). Gorton gave Skjei his awful deal, but was able to get that to Carolina. Trouba is a big number and should scare everyone. We are paying for players NOT to play here what it cost to sign Taylor Hall and TJ Brodie. Thats a bad look for any GM.
  16. What a ridiculous start to free agency. Sign a half dozen pikers and let Fast walk for 2 mill aav? It’s really an indefensible position.. It’s going to be really funny when they give Matt Martin that same contract.
  17. In the grans scheme of things we could be lamenting having traded real assets, then extending say a Josh Anderson to a 7 year 38.5 million dollar deal.. It could be much worse
  18. If Tampa had only one functioning defensive paring and the entirely of the bottom 6 requiring massive overhaul I would agree with your point.
  19. Maybe I’m just reading this all wrong.. Johnson and the other guys signed today we’re purposefully done. But I’d think filling the meaningful or hopeful key contributor spots first, considering the cap crunch, would be the way to go. These signings are JAG’s, I’d have liked to keep that 125k, here, or 150k there in the pocket. Having an extra mill to work with an actual contributor would be a better option IMO.. most of the guys we signed yesterday are a dime a dozen, they will be there when you have finished shopping and want to spend your last few bucks
  20. No. Let the market play out, and if all that’s left is the worst possible option, take it then.. you don’t take the worst possible option right out of the gate. We can quibble of the merits of the player if you like, I just don’t see pouncing on what even his most ardent backers would call a severely flawed defenseman.
  21. My real issue with this move aside from the “why”... is the timing. I don’t think there was a long list of GMs beating down his door, he could have been signed in a month, or January for that matter. I just don’t see the point on spending 1 dollar, let alone 1.15 million on a player of this caliber on day one of free agency. This makes me think 22 year old Gorton was the guy that walked into a bar, identified the most horrid looking lady there 5 minutes after happy hour started and was in home in bed by 7:00.
