[brooks] Captain Zibanejad Coming in 2020-21?
CaptainMorganBarron replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
He is not that soft. His problem is puck handling especially after the eye injury. -
If some team was offering us great return for Kakko then, maybe we should have taken it.
-
no that is dumb reason. I don't think anybody wants to trade him, I think the only way he is traded is if some team really wants him and is willing to pay through the nose.

I doubt Staal refused it, I think they never offered it. I think it would raise Staal's trade value for trade deadline if he is named captain. -
[brooks] Rangers to Add "Muscle and Grit" for Next Season

Bottom like is we have a better chance to win a Cup with Laviolette and his crew than with Quinn and his crew. You can argue and debate it all you want, I don't care. -

no translation is I am wasting my time and the arguments against mine are idiotic. Like this: "The coaching staff will upgrade itself via experience." -
I am trying to say if there is a great package on the table it might be smart to take it. By the way what does Lafrenier's injury history looks like? Any possible red flags?
-
Are there no fans that are not in love with Lundqvist and think he was overrated and was not really worth that big contract? Also he would have helped himself and the Rangers rebuild if he agreed to being traded at the time we were trading McDonagh. It was a dumb decision to refuse to waive his clause at that time. He could have won the Cup and Rangers could have gotten great return.
-
Lafreniere is not guaranteed to be great. He might struggle, he might get injured.

If a coach came close multiple times he has more of a clue what needs to be done to with the Cup. In Laviolette's case he won it and 2 times lost in the finals. So according to you we don't need a "has been loser" like Laviolette to replace our "unknown x-factor" Quinn? You don't see any reason to upgrade the coaching staff because we will not win a Cup anyway this season, so who cares let's get a better draft position? -
There are plenty interviews that Lundqvist gave where he was not happy with his treatment. But seems like you ignored the main point I was making and focused on whether he is a sour pus or not. Honestly that isn't even important. Scenario I missed is if he gets bought out and signs with another NHL team in hopes of finally winning the Cup.

why do we need a coach at the cusp of competing that still has to prove and implement a system that can win the Cup? -
technically if Rangers buy out Lundqvist they owe him only 2/3 of the remaining money (which I think is 4.5 mil) so 2/3 of that is 3 mil. So by retiring he is walking away from 3 million, but he will probably get paid at least 2 Mil to play for Frolunda. This is a no brainer. Be a top dog in native Sweden with his twin brother where the season begins in few weeks or be a miserable sour pus backup for a long NHL season that starts in December.

2020 Offseason Thread: Get to Fixin'

I never really liked Paul Maurice too much as a coach though. Was just an example of a young coach getting a start in NHL at an actual young age, not 51. -

Dude, I am not blind, I can see his record, color me unimpressed. And his choice of assistant coaches unimpressive too. -

many of them start a lot younger (Paul Maurice was 28 when he started as an assistant coach in NHL, but already won the Chapionship in OHL just before that as a head coach) in their NHL career or they have accumulated a lot of AHL coaching experience and/or a lot of assistant coach experience in NHL. -

My issue is I am not really sold on him due to his lack of NHL coaching experience and lack of NHL coaching experience of his assistants Brown and Oliver. Why would a bunch on newcomers to NHL have a better system or better coaching chops that people that were here in in NHL getting it done for years? -

I agree, it wasn't really the toughness that was the issue. It was way too few games to really evaluate what happened. Luck certainly wasn't on our side. I felt like Panarin gave a half assed effort. Feels like our forward roster is lacking versatility and good defensive ability. Need more forwards that can play all 3 positions. as far as coaching and system goes we were by far less prepared and less fired up. Carolina did their homework on us, we did not do any on them. We need more quality players on our 3rd/4th lines than trash that Carolina threw away. Stop plugging those lines with just anybody. -

Anybody who thinks we should not bother now to upgrade our coaching staff should check out the master vs disciple series between Capitals and Islanders. 10 winning trades for roster players would likely produce less difference than one coaching upgrade. -
I would not rush to make a trade until we have better understanding what we have and what are our holes. Also have to wait for Lundqvist to announce if he is retiring or not.

why shouldn't he?
