None of this is true. You don't know if he could be had for free next year, just like you don't know if Panarin will be signing here. If he makes the team that means he's an upgrade over whoever he beats out. Rangers must have confidence he'll make the team. Generally speaking, when you have the chance to add skill, you add skill. The Rangers have been a largely skill-less team since the lockout and now we're finally adding a shit load of players who project to be full of skill. If it turns out that they have too many puck moving D-men, guess what? They can trade one. But until that is determined, it's never a bad thing to add a great prospect. Better to have a surplus than a deficit. As for next year, I don't think there's anyone who believes next season is a throw away season.

I'm not sure what this means. Brooks has been calling for Shatty's head for what seems like years now. I don't know how they'll be able to get rid of him.

2019 Off-Season Thread: We Got This Bread, Man
ThirtyONE replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
If Andersson was our only 1st round pick in the last couple years I’d be upset. But he’s one of 5. If he turns out to be a useful NHL player that fillls a role I’ll be satisfied. -

Yeah. Good example. People are way too quick to write players off (Anderson, Howden, etc.). If they ultimately don't work out, fine, but they deserve a few seasons to figure it out. There's no rush. -

I don't know why anyone hopes for a "break out season" from a 19 year old. He's not Connor McDavid. Look at Zibanejad. It took him 8 years to become a (almost) PPG player. That's the kind of progress you can hope to see from our young players. -

He doesn’t strike me as a kid who lacks confidence. -

Good. The less we rush these guys, the better. -

That team is stacked and he's not only failed to live up to his hype but has been dropped to 3rd or even 4th line. Rangers don't need more of these kinds of players. They need sure-things. They need talent. -
For some reason the Leafs annoy the shit out of me. I absolutely cannot root for them.

"Carl Hagelin" I believe was the comparable.

Is Kakko playing in this tournament? I thought he was skipping to play in the older one. -

Exactly. There's a reason he's highly touted and consensus #1. He had 4 goals today and 7 points. -

It's hard to even know what holes the Rangers have on their roster next year because there's a question mark at literally every position except for 1C. Is Chytil playing center or wing? Andersson? Howden? Nieves? Who are they shipping out on D? Anyone? I can't see a successful scenario in which they have Brendan Smith playing wing and a never ending rotation at D. Who's playing goal? -

Funny. I always wonder if the Rangers are calling about the top picks and now that we actually have one, I don't see any scenario in which we should move it. -

I can't see them giving DeAngelo anything long term based on his "maturity issues." 1 or 2 years max. Buch on the other hand seemed to turn a corner. Not sure what he'll get. -

This is an odd move. AV has never done well with a team that wasn't already awesome. -
[tsn] McKenzie: "Rangers want to get better in a hurry,"
ThirtyONE replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
There are question marks with Karlsson, IMO. Not Panarin. Hopefully in 3 years the Rangers are paying star money to Kakko and Kravstov. I think that’s something to consider as well considering we’ve seen what happens when a large portion of your cap is taken up by one or two players. To me Panarin or Karlsson makes sense. Not sure about both long term. -
"just be better at drafting." Kinda just sums up your vague expectations.

Alright well since you're cherry picking, I'll list his players that played a major role for the Rangers: Artem Anisimov, Carl Hagelin, Derek Stepan, Chris Kreider, Jesper Fast, J. T. Miller, Pavel Buchnevich, Del Zotto, Skjei (none of which are 4th liners) Between, 2006 and 2017 the Rangers had 6 first round picks, one of which died. Out of the other five, only one was above spot 19. He's also drafted: Lias Andersson, Filip Chytil, Morgan Barron, Vitali Kravtsov, K'Andre Miller, Nils Lundkvist, Igor Shestyorkin, Tarmo Reunanen, and Joey Keane -- all players who show incredible promise. Yes, he missed on McIlrath. But that was NINE years ago. One fuck up does not make you bad at your job. Not to mention, every armchair scout on this board wanted Wahlstrom last year while Kravstov was just ranked the best NHL prospect a few months ago.

No dude. Gordie Clark missed on McIlrath 9 years ago. He’s a horrible scout that and can’t be trusted to do anything other than fuck it all up.
