I'm torn on Kreider. Whatever decision they make, I'll understand either way. Strome, I like and I think he'll be needed to play center while Howden, Anderson, and Chytil try to figure it out. Odd men out, for me, are Vesey and Namestnikov. I haven't like Hayes or Vesey from day one and I'd love to have both out of my life.

It's not about waiting three years, it's about not doing anything dumb to mortgage the future. I think the Rangers should be trying to model themselves after the Bruins. Year after year they give themselves a chance. That's all you need to do.

He's not Connor McDavid. Which people seem to measure every prospect against in terms of immediate impact. Buch has just started coming into his own at 23. Zib is fulfilling his potential for the first time at 26. Anyone who thinks Kravstov is going to be a star next season is going to be very disappointed. Similarly, anyone who's down on him next season, will also be speaking too soon. I'd be thrilled if Kakko or Kravstov were as effective as Hischer was in his rookie season but I don't expect that to be the case.

I hope the Rangers are the first team not to go past 5 years with UFAs. I don't care about the cap hit, so long as the years aren't astronomical.

They started out horribly. The worst team in the league at Christmas. That's the only reason they didn't win the division -- in fact they lost the division on the last day of the season. "4th worst" is not the proper way of thinking about it. They were the best team in the NHL in the second half. I agree they're not loaded with offensive game breakers but they have at least two. To say they're not that talented is wrong. They're a heavy team. Good defensive team. Good goaltending. They're solid all around.

I don?t think it works that way. JD has said over and over patience is paramount. Would they like to make the playoffs next season? Of course. But I don?t think that means anything. They?re going to make the decisions that best help build the team for long term success. ?Trying to make a run? implies they?ll be selling first round picks and young players to the highest bidder and I just don?t see that being the case in two years. I think the team will be talented enough next season to be better than they were this season. How much better depends more on what happens at defense and how effective Kravstov and Kakko are in their rookie seasons. That said they missed the playoffs by 20 points. Anyone who bitches about one missed call, doesn't understand how the game works. Calls are missed all the time. Bruins had 54 minutes before the call to score a goal and didn't do it. Fuck them.

This is actually the most important element to me. The Rangers are not just the 23 players that wear the jersey. I think it's important to develop this "club" mentality for everyone involved.

Agreed. Kakko and Podkolzin would be an absolute coup. Rangers have a great track record with bringing over russian players. I wouldn't be nervous about it at all.
