  1. He did what he had to do to make a living. Doesn’t mean he wasn’t smart.
  2. Kreider is a 50 point player. He gets 5m, period. If he were putting up 40 goals and 10 assists it would be a different story, but he's not. If he doesn't want 5m, he can go get it in Edmonton. I love Kreider but he's a complimentary player.
  3. I really like how the Rangers are set up beyond the team at the moment (president questions aside). I think Quinn has a great demeanor and personality and I think we saw huge strides with most of our players in a "lost cause" kind of scenario. I think Jeff Gorton has done an absolutely incredible job managing assets and rebuilding this thing much quicker than I anticipated. But, most of all, I think I appreciate how open they are in the media. To me, that's a critical element to walking a fanbase through a rebuild. There were no boos this year at the garden, no unhappy fans. Everyone is on the same page from GM - players - fans and I'm honestly shocked. People have always said you can't rebuild in New York. It's not over yet but so far so good. I've very happy with the direction of the club.
  4. Something about this is strange to me. What exactly has JD done with those other teams? He’s not the GM but neither St. Louis nor Columbus were that successful. Hell, Columbus hadn’t won a playoff round until this year. Hopefully this is just one of those jobs that doesn’t really matter. I don’t think Sather has been involved in quite some time. I’m all for ranger family but not at the expense of winning or proper management.
  5. I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. #19 and #28 are not anywhere near as valuable as #10 (or higher). I don't see any team doing that.
  6. I mean, he can't leave. It's impossible. They asked and he said no. It's also not true that he can't stop the puck. He's basically the reason they didn't finish dead last. He had a bad 2nd half but I chalk that up to depression more than anything. So, what are they going to do for two years? Rotate 3 goalies? Someone is going to get screwed and it's not Hank. It's not inconceivable that one of the Russians get traded so if that's the case, then Hank could be resigned to be a backup so long as he's not asking for a lot.
  7. There's a new trend of having two mediocre goalies instead of one great one. The Rangers are potentially lining themselves up to have a Russian tandem but I wonder how that changes in two years. If they decide to move one of the Russians, then you can resign Hank to be the backup/tandem. I'd have no issue with that scenario at all. In two years, we could be looking at making a legit run too.
  8. Middlestadt? That's it? Middlestadt or bust? You know he also hasn't been great. I just don't understand how you can constantly shit on a rookie. I don't get the thought process behind that.
  9. At what point would you just be satisfied with his play? If he becomes a reliable NHL player, does it really matter where he was drafted? Considering we are already two years beyond this draft and still somehow talking about drafting him at 7, in complete hindsight, who would you want instead? The list of players who have significant NHL time from that draft is very short. I just don't understand why anyone would expect Andersson to be a great player at 20 years old.
  10. Sharks are the most intersting team left. Thornton’s last kick at the can. This is their year.
  11. Lol god we're just going in circles. What are you basing your opinion on that Gorton "always" overpays? That's all I'm asking.
  12. Not that it matters but here's what you said: Bold is what I'm taking issue with. What is this based on? Per conversation, it seems like you're basing these statements on the idea that Miller and Namestnikov was a 1-1 and everything else was for Mac... which as you stated, we don't know to be true.
  13. I'm not sure what your point is. The trade wasn't Miller for Namestnikov. There was a lot more to it than that.
  14. I agree. The Tampa deal is almost impossible to say that was a bad deal so far. Tampa got absolutely nothing out of it other than first round embarrassment and a shit load of cap issues. JT Miller isn't much to write home about and the exact kind of player (50 point/5million) we're hoping to rid ourselves of. Whereas Libor Hajek looked awesome in his limited time, Brett Howden was the surprise out of camp, and K'Andre Miller looks like an absolute stud. I'm not sure how we got "garbage" back from Tampa. In any case, with the inclusion of the 2nd overall this year (Kakko), the Rangers system is absolutely stacked with their own picks as well as other team's picks. It only took two years to tear it down and restock. I'm thoroughly impressed by what Gorton has been able to accomplish.
  15. I think if the Rangers drafted Adam Fox in the 2nd round this year, everyone would be thrilled. I don't understand some of these complaints. The 2nd round has something like a
  16. A "good return" would be no salary retained, IMO. They're not going to get anything for him in terms of useful skaters.
  17. I get the sense that the Rangers are like a shark circling the waters. Calm but capable of something if they want to. This is the most excited I've been about the Rangers in years. Gorton has played his hand very very well.
  18. None of this is true. You don't know if he could be had for free next year, just like you don't know if Panarin will be signing here. If he makes the team that means he's an upgrade over whoever he beats out. Rangers must have confidence he'll make the team. Generally speaking, when you have the chance to add skill, you add skill. The Rangers have been a largely skill-less team since the lockout and now we're finally adding a shit load of players who project to be full of skill. If it turns out that they have too many puck moving D-men, guess what? They can trade one. But until that is determined, it's never a bad thing to add a great prospect. Better to have a surplus than a deficit. As for next year, I don't think there's anyone who believes next season is a throw away season.
  19. Rangers have a billion picks. This is the exact reason you try to have a billion picks. This is how you "speed up the rebuild."
