Karlsson was going to get 7-8 years no matter what. He's the premier defender in the league. Trouba is 25 and an RFA. His price is not connected to Karlsson at all. And trade price has nothing to do with free agency.

Huh? Why? Trouba isn't Karlsson and the situations are completely different. I'm not sure why anyone is surprised that Karlsson got 11.5. I thought that was pretty much known to be the case all season.

The thing about this ranking, is that it's doesn't necessarily mean anything. BM asks 11 of 31 scouts and then uses their averages to compile his list. Of his players listed 25-80, all of them have at least 1 first round vote. Basically, what I'm saying is I don't want to hear about this list if the Rangers go "off board" at #20 because there are guys deep into the draft that teams love. Off board at 2 would be cause for outrage, but not at 20.

I agree. Karlsson is the best defender in the game. Three years from now, that may not be the case, but that's the risk they're willing to take. He deserves the money and term and I'm not surprised he got it. Sharks have done very well remaining relevant and in constant contention for the last 10 years or so it seems. Their window has been open for as long as I can remember. As far as Pavelski goes, I'd actually love to sign him here.

Again. I disagree here. 50 mins to SF, one of the best cities in the world IMO. 50 mins to Monterey and Carmel. You could live on the beach in Santa Cruz and have one hell of a life. SJ is a more appealing city than most other NHL city IMO. Depending what kind of lifestyle you want, I’d make a case for top 5 in the NHL.

He's 25, not 26 which makes a big difference considering the majority of a 7 year deal would be prime years as the contract would end when he's 32. "Old Rangers thinking" would be to sign that 32 year old or trade for him when he's 31 -- but not at 25. That seems to fit with what's going on here. I actually think he's a perfect fit in terms of age and asking price at 7m. The debate comes down to who do you give up for him. If he can fill the role that Pietrangelo or Seth Jones fills, then I'll move the listed players.

I’m very conflicted on this. I can’t tell what I think. On one hand I don’t think you know what you’ve got with Lundkvist or the 20th OA. Could be absolutely nothing for all we know. Buch would be the hardest to give up but even he has a ton of question marks and will be relegated to third line with Kakko and Kravstov. Realistically, the jets are bound to strike gold on at least one of them. On the other hand — the inverse of the above is true. We’re bound to strike gold on one of them.

I don’t know what his provides, hockey wise. He’s not physical or skilled. I have no use for him.
