Fatfrancesa
Even if Gorton can’t get him signed he’s worth more than what they gave up at the deadline. Great trade.
Dunny
I'm kind of sad we can't play Josh' "count the seconds to find Pionk after glaring defensive zone meltdown leading to goal" game anymore.

We can. We just have to stay up late watching Jets games now.
RangersIn7
They have to. He has no role and no means of building his value from this point. That means big extension for Trouba and buyout for Shattenkirk Some savings on the buyout but 4 years of dead cap space
Pete
Absolutely ridiculous trade. Winnipeg is panicking.This. Great trade. He was pretty clear he wasn't signing there, so I guess leverage came into play.
Mr.wiskers
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC ? 1h No conditional picks to WIN if Trouba re-signs. NYR were not allowed to talk to him. Eligible for extension on July 1. What is Eliotte insinuating with this tweet Sent from my iPad using Blueshirts Brotherhood mobile app powered by Tapatalk
Phil
That Winnipeg wasn't allowing would-be trade partners to talk extension with Trouba prior to the trade.

He can still go UFA next summer. We may have only traded for 1 year of Trouba. Unlikely, tho.

tphilly5
Rebuild mode is over. Trouba is exactly the kind of Dman we needed. Maybe other teams were scared off by the Karlsson deal? How could he possibly have been so cheap?
Kevin
Rebuild mode is over. Trouba is exactly the kind of Dman we needed. Maybe other teams were scared off by the Karlsson deal? How could he possibly have been so cheap? Jets still had little leverage. Trouba wanted out plus the risk of not being able to sign him certainly had to scare some teams off (e.g. Islanders). Chevaldayoff was put in a very difficult position and the Rangers were lucky enough to benefit. Plus, I don't think the hockey world views Pionk as poorly as most on here do. He's still very young and on a cheap contract and certainly has offensive potential. Playing 3rd pair, like he belongs, on a good team might be just what he needs. How could he possibly have been so cheap? I think it comes down to the 1st rd pick. The other rumored teams interested were NJ (1), NYI (23), PHI (11), Detroit (6), TB - none, didnt offer (willing to part with, or, had a worse pick) than the Rangers. Winnipeg doesnt need a top 6 winger, nor a top 4 Dman. Pionk gives them a young guy with upside, that is cost controlled. Theyll be able to save enough money to possibly re-sign Myers, as well, leaving Pionk as a third pair guy - which he should be ok. Names out there like Ghost means you lose Trouba via trade, and Myers to free agency, and not getting Ghost + 11, which means no first round pick. Nolan Patrick's name was floating out there, but that would be tough to part with for potentially only 1 season of Trouba. They only had 1 more season with Trouba, and cant wait until the deadline, because they need to re-sign Myers.
NYR2711
Great deal. The only thing sweeter would have been to include either Smith or Shatty in the deal. I would buy out Smith and definitely try to move Shatty at this point.
GordonGecko
Essentially 2 months of Hayes and Pionk for Trouba...nice. Rangers give up: - 1 month of Kevin Hayes - Neal Pionk - 2nd round pick - 3rd round pick In exchange for: - Jacob Trouba - Brendan Lemieux - Adam Fox

If there was interest couldn’t they have traded for a pick earlier than 20? WPG pulled the trigger 4 days before the draft, so they must have had a handle on the market. Going to get real interesting with Panarin, or Kreider, and any buyouts.

RodrigueGabriel
Interesting Winnipeg Sun interview, post-trade. Wouldn't talk about an extension but seems excited to come to MSG. 4EverRangerFrank
Huge! Happy day today as we acquired a #1 d-man without much collateral damage. Smith to Hartford as one of those ?inspirational leaders? our farm system needs? Or is he too costly for that role?
Zuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuc
This off season is crazy, Gorton is insane. New additions since last season: Shesterkin Rykov Fox Trouba Kravtsov Kakko And all we gave up was a couple months of Hayes, Pionk, a 2nd and a 3rd.
